Hello,

I have this mixer: http://www.musicarius.com/catalog/images/AM240-1-M.jpg

I also have these old ameture cd decks, which could actually come in useful aspecially with the 2 speakers they have.

http://www.homemix.com/KIT3_Main.htm

Now, i need a way of connecting the mixer (which is connected to the pc) to the cd decks for me to use the decks speakers when i listen to what the artist has recorded to preview the work. Therefore saves taking the headphones out an putting speakers in and also gives us better sound

thanks (i know decks are crap, i dont care bout them)

Phono L/R rec outs from the mixer to the phono L/R in on the decks.

Or the jack line-outs on the mixer to the phono L/R in on the decks (would need a connecting plug convertor, about £1)

No, the red and white sockets below to the right of the those main ones, says rec next to them.

Red / White phono sockets are common, you should have one if you have a hi-fi set up with a cd etc

As I say, it would also be possible to connect the 'main' output jacks to the phono ins on the decks too, would just need a lead which was jacks to phono (I dunno, £3-£4)

OR, you could get a single stereo jack to jack lead and go from the headphone socket on the mixer to the line-in on the decks.

So many options :)

Thanks bud, so for main i need these

By adding those an connecting the decks would the PC sound run through the decks speakers yea?, as the mixer is connected to PC via phono.

Also, if i bought some surround sound speakers could i also use those plus the decks speakers, if so please link to some examples on OCUK if you dont mind.

thanks a lot mate, nice of you to help

appreciate it a lot

Know what, when i plug the headphones into that socket they dont get sound so they go into the pc an work fine. No idea why that is.

What would you do?

It should, as long as your PC is connected from it's output (line out) to an input on the mixer. Which input on the mixer is your PC going into? Make sure this connection is stereo.

Add a second set of speakers by using another one of the output methods I mentioned. There look to be at least three - main jacks out, phono recs, and headphones. I'd use the phono for the decks, and either the main or the headphone for extra speakers.

Don't know what you mean by an example on OCUK.

You mean if you attach the mixer into your PC via the headphone socket it gets sound, but actual headphones in the headphone socket don't? Or do you mean there is no sound at all from the headphone socket??

Well you won't actually have 5.1 signals from the mixer, just stereo, so you don't actually have to use dedicated surround speakers (I don't own any, so I don't know what connections they use).

Normal desktop speakers would do.

hey,

i have this cable now. without any luck apart from weird noises like 'wooooooommmmmmphhhhhh' this is what i have tried:

Putting the jacks from left of the pic (we will call them left and right) into 'main' onto the mixer and then 'right' into the phono in on cd decks.

doing this gives me weird noises but not the music my laptop is playing. I have the mixer going into my laptops 'headphone' jack via 'rec out'

i have also tried putting them in ctrl rm on the mixer then 'right' into output, phono in and also aux in on cd decks. what am i doing wrong?

thanks

Okay, hang on. Are you needing to send the signal FROM your laptop into the mixer??? If you are sending a signal from your laptop TO your mixer, from the laptop's headphone, then you don't want the input to be going into the REC OUT. They are output, for example for sending a signal FROM the mixer to somewhere else.

Using the leads you have I think you have the signal chain correct from the mixer to your decks, but from the laptop you need to go from the headphone / line out to an input. Did you try the 2T return phono sockets, under the rec outs?

If they don't work you'll have to find another way to input into the mixer from your laptop. Line out (as you have now) from the laptop, to the 2 channel separate line ins would be your best bet (where it says BAL OR UNBAL, under the XLR Mic inputs). So left and right have their own channel. Pan each hard left and hard right for stereo.

Once again, you'll need a specific lead / connectors, but these are easily available.

So:

PC / Laptop OUT <------> INTO Mixer

Mixer OUT <------> INTO Decks

-------------------------------------

PC OUT = Line out or headphone (3.5mm stereo jack)

Mixer IN = 2t return (L/R phonos)

OR:

PC OUT = Line out or headphone (3.5mm stereo jack)

Mixer IN = Two separate channel line ins (two 1/4 inch jacks BAL / UNBAL)

THEN: (your current)

Mixer OUT = 1/4 inch Jacks from MAIN

Decks IN = L/R Phono Input

OR: (alternative)

Mixer OUT = L/R Phono REC OUT

Decks IN = L/R Phono Input
