Connecting PC to my audio system

I was wanting to have my PC sound through my audio system speakers, I have an optical connection on my motherboard, is it just a matter of putting an optical lead from that to my audio system or will I have to change settings somewhere in windows?

You will need to select digital (SPDIF) as default in Windows sound properties.

make sure the input on the amp is set to optical as well ^
