Connecting SATA drive question.

Hi...

This is probably a silly question, but does it matter which SATA channel (1-6) you connect the Operating system drive to?

Nope, it will look to SATA 1 for a Boot drive 1st though.

I guess you can set the drive priority in the BIOS, though I don't know if this has any effect?

ive got 3 satas in mine and i put them in order, but for no particular reason apart from, surely its meant to be that way, but i have 2 sata optical drives also

In theory it shouldn't matter which port you use but for some reason some of the board/BIOS vendors (Abit is a case in point) have managed to set things up in such a way that you can only boot from 4 of the six ports.

It does not matter, as i once set up my OS HDD to the sata4 port and it still booted as fast

, but because i am a odd kid and when i got my 2 x 74gb Raptors and switched the boot from my Seagate Baracude to the 2 raptors at Raid 0, i had to have the Raptors in Sata 1 and 2, just because i am an odd kid
