Hey guys,
I recently got myself a projector and today I went down town to buy a scart to 2 phono and S-video cable to connect my sky box to my projector. The sky box only really has scart and aerial sockets on it and the projector has a host of ports, one of which is s-video. I thought that plugging the scart into the sky box, the s-video into the projector and the 2 phono parts in my stereo would do the job but the projector doesn't seem to find the signal.
Am I doing something wrong?! Is there an alternative way to get it work? O yea here is the connection diagram for the back of my projector can be found on this page http://www.pvp.toshiba.co.uk/consum...mecinemaproj&subcat=homecinemaproj-2midrange#
Thanks!
Robin

I maybe wrong (i havent had standard sky for years now) but they dont have an option for an s-video output.

So....thats why your projector does not see the s-video signal

To do a direct connection your only option is going to be to use composite video, which looks like a single audio connection but will be yellow on the black of the projector. The connecter is called RCA, you need a scart to treble RCA lead, the video (yellow) going to the projector, and the 2 audio (red and white) will go to the amplifier for audio.

Ok thanks,so even though I am pluggin scart into the sky box i cant output s-video at the other end? I did see one of them in the shop as well but opted for the s-video as i thought it would be better quality!

It would be better quality if you had sky+, which offers an s-video output (which is where matblack is probably quoting the option from)

Sadly standard sky does not output s-video. It will output RGB via scart 1 (this is selectable in video options, a toggle between RGB and standard), or composoite video from both of its scart sockets.

As your projector will not interface with the RGB output of the sky box the option left is to use composite video. See if the shop will swap the cable out :)

edit: I could be incorrect about the standard boxes not having an s-video option though, i dont have one to test and havent had one for years, so i cannot be sure. Try the hidden menu (services 4-0-1 select - do this quickly to bring it up) and look for any s-video options there. Failing that composite is the only option.

ok thanks, the sky+ box in the living room has s-video which works nicely but in my room i got the old box :( Anyway thanks a lot for the help, i'll nip back into town and change it now :)

Just try that hidden menu before you do dude, as i cannot be 100% sure not having a standard box here.:)

Another option of course: http://www.keene.co.uk/cgi-bin/bigcodesearch.pl?RGB2C

That'd be the most ideal solution using the RGB from the sky box. But then its expensive just for a touch of extra quality from what is essentially a low quality medium anyway.

Never saw your post but just went back and changed it for normal video and it works at least :) thanks for yout help mate

Edit: i had a check on the hidden menu and cant see anything. Pity coz the quality is noticably different but better than nothing!
