Hi all,

Just a quick query whether or not the data transmitted when connected to an unsecured wireless network at work would be safe?

Thanks :)

Depends what you're using to transmit it - if the network isn't using encryption, anything that's broadcast can be sniffed, but if you're using some encrypted protocol on top of that (SSH, SSL etc) it still can't be read.

So I can probably see what you're browsing, but I can't raid your bank account.

Can't? Or less likely?

MITM attacks are still possible!

Yeah, but I was talking about what you could grab with something like AirSniff - if I can perform a MITM on a corporate network, I've got access to your DNS server(s) and you've got bigger issues to worry about than what's transferred over the wireless network.

The best answer is running unsecured wireless networks, just don't :p

Unfortunately we have no choice, its a wireless access point to part of work for customers to use. We wanted to setup an account on an online ordering website now but will just wait until we are cabled to the router then :)
