Looking at getting a device (not sure if it would be a router or a hub or whatever) that would connect to my PC onboard LAN using Ethernet and then would connect via wireless to my broadband modem/router I have in the loft.

What am I looking for and how do I set it up?

It's called a wireless bridge. They're fairly idiot proof to setup, and are mostly used for things like X-Box/PS2 where only a LAN port is available.

I have a couple of Linksys WET11s - they're only 802.11b, and don't support WPA. So I wouldn't recommend them. There are plenty out there though.

Yup, wireless bridge. Getting one wired PC on to a wireless LAN is relatively easy and any of the bridges listed on that page should do that.

LAN-to-LAN bridging is a bit more 'fun'. I use a Linksys WRT54GS with Sveasoft firmware to do that job. Supports WPA into the bargain, which is nice.
