Been having connection issues for the past week or so and the only way I can explain it is that it seems to starting a stoping... its still getting data through but causing latency problems in games.

If I que up some downloads in Firefox then will stay on "Starting" for a good 20-30 seconds, never had these issues before and it just seems to be getting worse!

I noticed it more in the evenings which is sometimes expected but its happening all day, everyday.

I rang AOL and they said about the traffic being heavier in the evenings blah blah and I then explained that its slow during the day and morning too, they said this is a known fault and could take 2-3 weeks to fix?

Is this a fob off?

Any suggestions or help would be greatful, I am a phone call away from ringing up and cancelling! We're pay £30 a month for a service that we're no getting.

Thanks :)

It would ;] Unless its a problem with your BT line. Are they putting your on LLU? (can cause slowness + loss of connectivity until its finished)

Im still with AOL as I used to pay £27 all in for the 8meg Platinum. Rang them up asking for a MAC code to leave and they reduced it to £17 ;)

Id suggest you do the same, just make sure your not being put on a new contract and LLU (unless you want it for some reason)

This slowdown has only been here for a week or so and its becomming very irrirating! Thinking of going over to Virgin Media, 20Mb cable line for £23.50 a month!

As for the LLU, what is this exaclty? We've not requested anything to happen and none of our setup has changed?!

LLU: Local loop unbundling, basically AOL putting their equipment in the telephone exchange so they dont have to use BT's network (works out cheaper for them, and should give you better deals, in theory ;))

You dont change any thing your end, but whilst they are moving you onto their equipment you can loose connectivity and have reduced speeds for abit.

I just did a speedtest and got 6meg so dont think anything wrong with their network atm.

Check Samknows and enter your area. Then look under LLU on your exchange to see if AOL is enabled.

This is all just a guess though, could have some faults in your area, like the Rep said.

sorry for highjacking the thread but what does it mean if im with aol and aol isnt enabled

Just that your not on LLU but IPStream (like me)

AOL wont always give you the cheapest deals as they have to use the BT network in the exchange rather than theirs.

Problem is once on LLU to go to a provider who isnt using LLU (Entanet) etc you have to pay £45? reconnection charge IIRC to put you back on to BT's network.

LLU gives you more freedom to move around (ISP-wise) in my opinion.

Speeds and everything should be the same on both services (though LLU Should be slightly quicker)

im on aol, they upgraded us to 4mbit for free when we asked for the mac code, which they have done.

but im capped to 2mbit still 24/7 which goes down to 512 at the evenings.

in the last few weeks ive been stuck on 30kb/s max yet im synced at 3130kb/s stable.

Im slowly getting my family to switch to the email accounts ive provided on my servers webmail, therefore we can make do with the not so great email zen offer ;)
