Something weirds going on. After coming back off holiday i turned on my PC only for the Internet to die for a few seconds every so often. My first thought was its my connection, but i'm 99% sure its not that. I ran a few virus scans and one thing did pop up which i thought it could be (cant remember exactly what it was called, win32.trojan.dnschanger or something). But after formatting nothing appears when i do a virus scan yet its still happening.

All that happens is every so often (every 10 minutes or something), IRC will disconnect (leaving a message along the lines of software caused connection abort 10053 or something like that), web pages won't load and ventrilo will disconnect. It'll start working again 10 seconds later, but its amazingly annoying and i need to fix it!

Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas?

DNS changer? it looks like its changing ** DNS which disconnects you from programs, but still there after a format? never seen that before.

If you format again make sure to put antivirus and firewall on BEFORE you connect to the internet

Replicate, divide, mutate, survive.
Tame? Beat. You hungry? Control tastes so sweet.
Species? Walk tall. Now show me the difference so small.
Kill, eat, exploit the weak.
It's freedom? That's choice. You listen because I hear no voice.
Tested, still lives? Now tell me the strong will survive.
Kill, eat, exploit the weak

are you using a router to connect to the internet or just a standard usb modem?

unless said virus is on a second HDD and has somehow managed to make its way onto the HDD with windows installed onto it - it would be VERY unlikely it would survive a format

usb modem, connecting to the NIC rather than usb though. Think i'll have to try formatting again tomorrow :/

Don't think it's a virus. I keep getting this sort of thing myself and I'm pretty meticulous about staying virus-free. I do know some firewall software can cause it (ZoneAlarm used to do so a few years ago). Mind you, I have so much stuff installed on my PCs it could be anything. Going to have to reformat eventually.

formatted again, made sure firewall/anti virus/spyware etc wsd all installed before connecting to the net and its still happening. Dunno what else to do now
