This is a long one - and very confusing.....
I have a single shuttle PC - with a wired network connection to a homehub.
Basically, 2 days ago - I downloaded Windows 8 Dev. to a spare HD and set it up to test. All good - until I disconnected the drive and switched back to my Windows Vista drive.
I had no Net connectivity ?? My PC network had limited availability and I tried everything to get it back. Did the usual reset homehub (powered down for 5mins) did the Windows Diagnose & Fix test, I renewed the IP address via command prompt - checked the cables, ethernet ports etc - even checked if the BIOS settings had changed. Nothing worked. Finally I did the reset winsock catalog thing, then a system restore and still nothing.
I first thought it was nothing to do with the hub or the on board Network card, because if I switched to the Windows 8 drive, it would work flawlessly again. I also had no trouble connecting wirelessly to the hub with my smartphone.
It just seemed to be something had changed in the Vista drive - but what ????
In the end, I went out and bought a wireless USB dongle, and stuck it in. Vista worked instantly - but now the connection drops quite often (every 5 mins or so) - and is slow, tempremental and will not connect to some sites (ie if I use the Get More Gadgets site on Microsoft - IE displays a connection error)
I'm at a loss as to what the problem is with the wireless now also. As the PC was perfect 3 days ago - and I can't think of what has happened to the Vista drive as I didn't even do anything to that part.
Any Ideas ?
