I wasn't sure where exactly to put this thread so please move if not appropriate for GD.

Can anyone offer some advice on how to approach a connectivity problem my Dad has? Basically he’s a complete technophobe but with two grand kids now, I want to try and get him involved in Skype, email, Facebook etc and drag him kicking and screaming into the technological age.

I was thinking a cheap Chromebook/tablet and a 3/4G wireless access point might do the trick – he’s 100% adamant that he doesn’t want to be paying for line rental and speed he’s not going to use i.e 76mb fibre . His main point of communication is his phone i.e text/calls at the minute but its not one that is geared for the web/apps etc.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

iPad, especially if he is a technophobe. My dad & father-in-law have iPads and can Facetime the family.

They get hands on time with the grandchild though as we all live locally but they need nearly zero tech support from me on the iPad(seeing as I am the 'IT Guy' in the family) :D

Yea, iPad with a data sim. Do Amazon still sell those 3 month sims from 3? You get 3GB or 3 months, whichever comes first and no chance of racking up a bill.
