Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 2.40GHz (1066FSB) or AMD X2 4400?

Its been long time since i had an Intel chip, but i am now curious as to how this would perform in comparison seeing as the intel has the 1066mhz FSB and 4mb Cache.

The E6600 and E6400 rock the proverbial socks, enough said. :)

God I want one. :(

Just imagine what the extreme edition can do... and yes the £6600 wipes the floor with the FX62

I can't even bring myself to think about the Extreme version, that's far too rich for my tastes. ;) I don't think I'll ever spend over £250 on a CPU, which is why the E6400 and E6600 chips look like such tasty treats to Scrooge's like myself. :) Only problem is the question of upgrading to DDR2 memory to support it.

Should be fine DDR2 memory is cool, and everyone is saying that Gskill DDR2 RAM is really good

I've had an FX-53 for a couple of years now and I was wondering if I would notice much difference between this and the Conroe - lets say the Extreme Edition.

Enough to warrant the absolutely frightening price? :)

I'm hoping so... if the E6600 can beat the FX-60 then I think that the extreme will do really well... I SO SO hope so

Well, I've been looking at various benchmarks for a while now and they've all reached the same conclusion, but having looked at the stats in that review you linked, the FX-62 gets a bit of a thrashing from the E6700, which is one below the 6800 (Extreme Edition?).

This will probably be the first Intel chip to grace my desktop since....well, my Pentium III 700 :D

Fixed. ;) Nothing personal. :p

Aye, me too. I've not owned an Intel processor since my PIII 550MHz, and as much as I have hated Intel the last few years, I think this is going to make me switch back.

What's the E6300 supposed to be like in performance, relative to X2? Is it like a 3800+ X2 or 4200+ X2?

I would say so but you more then likely will be able to clock it to E6600 speed anyway :)

Hehe... true. I'm hoping there's a decent priced motherboard that overclocks half-decently by the time they are released officially. Would the lower cache make much of a difference for comparative performance against the 4mb cache versions?

anyone know if the E6300 is going to be like the 805 and have a monster multiplyer

As far as I can tell, it's only 7x multi as the FSB is 266Mhz (1066Mhz effective quad pumped).

[EDIT] hehe, 1 minute too late replying!!!
