Conroe Benchmarks

Although its a pretty certain thing that Conroe will own all other CPUs on the Market.. This benchmark is running two PCs supplied by Intel. I wouldnt trust this benchmark. Let the SuperPI scores speak for themselves as they can't be faked in this way.. But this benchmark *could*, not saying it is, be inaccurate.

But I still think Conroe will own everything ;) and thats coming from a former AMD fanboy.

I bet AMD have sum technology up their sleeves that will beat Conroe, they just havn't had to reveal it yet as Intel have always been pants in comparison. Seems like Intel have looked at AMD tech or something as Intel cpu's have allways been much higher MHz and higher temps, now its more like an AMD.

I dont know what im going to do though, the first PC i built was an AMD and its been a great rig, so i dont know if moving to Intel for my next PC would be the best move. Especially if AMD hit back with a chip that mashes Conroe up. I have a winchester 3200 and 6800GT at the moment so will definatly need to upgrade in the near future but i think i will wait to see what happens before i go rushing in.

I will eat a whole egg if they are as mentally cheap as the US$-UK£ conversion says. Shell and all.
An ostrich egg, and I'd be impressed. :p

But like you, I can't see these being anywhere as cheap as a straight $ to £ conversion would be.

Personally, I'd like to see more 64bit benchmarks with these chips.
AMD had the edge over Intel in 64bit, and I'd like to see if the perfomance is as great with Conroe when running 64bit as it is in 32bit mode over K8.

you havent been using pcs very long have you

Who would have thought it a largely AMD leaning forum like overclockers now raving about INTEL chips!

Never thought I would see the day.

:p

Conroe will be my third Intel rig having had a:

s478 2.4ghz P4
s775 3.4ghz prescott

And then the best rig out of the lot my opty 2.8ghz dual core monster!

Intel again with conroe but I'll be keeping my opty for the time being its just to good not too.

But conroe looks to good not to get and overclock, and it will be interesting seeing the two do things side by side.

Maybe it appeared to be an AMD leaning forum because AMD have the fastest cores.
I see it more as a "top performing cpu" leaning forum, and therefore it's natural that they would move to conroe.

Only fanboys are brand-loyal (ignoring actual performance).

i have never seen the point/attraction to being a fanboy, the way it is to me is that you buy the best performing hardware at that time, it doesn't bother me who makes it?!

Thats not completely true though is it.
My HT p4 3.4ghz was a better video editing workstation than a similar specced AMD 64 rig.

AMD was better for games but not what I wanted to use my pc for at the time.

Hence why I went intel before the dual cores hit.

yeah i remember when P4 Northwoods where the hottest thing

most forum users had either a 2.8c or 3.0c cpu

Yes the Northwoods were great. I seem to remember the 2.4 was very popular for OC'ing, and then came the hunt for the 3.0C 30 capper ! Funny how a couple of years later another 2.4 Intel is getting the OC'ers drooling again.

I still have my P4C800-E Del mother board with a 3.4EE in, a great MB and CPU even if a bit dated.

I too can't wait for Conroe. Not read much about MB's for it though, I see the NF5 AM2 MB has 6 Sata connections. Imagine RAID 0, that would be a very fast array, not the safest admitted, but very fast.

I think that must have been about 2 years ago when 9800pro's were all the rage and so was getting 1gb of ram, oh wait - that's my 2 year old rig i'm running now (and of course I had an asus p4c800-e with that too, i've downsized to m-atx now though)

Conroe looks great, will probably be my upgrade, although Im not really that fussed as it'll be too expensive for a while!

Im just gonna quote myself from another thread I posted in.

Right lets do some maths

IN US Pentium D 960 = £280 ($528)
IN UK Pentium D 960 = £388 ($731)
Now thats a 39% increase

Soooo....

Theoretically
IN US E6400 = £129 ($243)
IN UK E6400 = £179 ($337)

I could work out some more but you guys are intelligent enough ;)

Whether they will be this cheap is doubtful but hey... we can always hope :)
