E6600 conroe
ASUS p5w dh dulux wifi
gskill 2gb the 240 pound memory

should i go ahead with it or should i wait to see what will be next in the next gen things, ill be buying about xmas time but i dont want to buy if there will be like a 8core cpu or somthing daft that comes out in a few months,

so does any one know if any new and better things will be releised in a few months for gaming please? ty

Quad core will be the only reasonable (using the term lightly) upgrade above a dual core. However they still cost ridiculous amounts of money for the actual performance increase as almost every app or game are not coded to work on multiple cores. Your E6600 won't bottleneck your system for a long time to come. The only possible reason for going quad core would be for running several resource hogging programs at once or programs designed to be used on multiple cores.

People are going to say that games like Alan Wake and Crysis will be utilising multiple cores and will be able to make full use of the new quad cores but I doubt that the performance increase over the E6600 dual core, oc'ed on the mobo to it's max of about 3.5~ would be worth the almost 3X price difference.

Memory wise you might be better to wait until january as prices right now are very high. I'm hoping they might drop somewhat after the christmas rush as I'm eyeing up some DDR2 ram for my own system.

As for your motherboard then your current choice is very good and stable and you'll be able to overclock everything nicely. However as always with computers you can expect new features to come along in a few months time that will make it outdated.

There is talk of PCI-E 2 coming out in Jan/Feb so you can expect motherboards to start adopting that much faster standard but most new gfx cards will stick with the PCI-E 16X min requirements for quite some time I bet.

thanks mate :)

allso with the rig, would you advise i get a water cooling (i will be getting a DX10 card in the future) or should i stick to air and get a sythce ninja cooler?

my cpu temps on stock cooler at the moment for my amd 4400x2 at 2.84ghz is 26c idle and 34c full load for 1 hour. so the air flow inside my case isnt a problem at all, but if i got a E6600 and clocked it past 3ghz would it kick out a lot of heat?

thanks

Holy huge sig batman  , 400x75 and less than 20k as per the FAQ. :)

Scythe Ninja is a cracking cooler, my mates got one of those on his E6600, it idles about 18, and is quiet, he's also got that Asus board, very happy with it. :)

He only went Conroe couple of days ago, and i went about 2x weeks ago, definately worth going to if your thinking about it, will last a good while to, as said above only thing really coming is quad core, but thats no use unless your running about 20 applications at once, pretty pointless if your a gamer id have thought.
