My PC isnt posting atall.

Spec
PSU- Magna 500W
HDD- hitachi deskster 80GB *2 (trying to raid)
RAM- corsair xms2 DDR2 5400 2*1gig
CPU- core2duo E6300 with some good heatsink
GC - x1600XT iceQturbo
storage deivice - 1 dvd rw and 1 cd rw
mobo- asus P5W DH deluxe with right BIOS (if they sent me the right one)

OK so far when i turn it on all the fans starts but the screen doesnt get any signal.

the floppy disk drive doesnt attempt moving either if this has anything to do with...

i dont hear much from the HDDs either maybe that has something to do with? i powered them via the special flat connector.

so far i have moved the GC and ram.

thankyou ,
shimy

O yes and one of the connecters from the PSU to the mobo seems 4 pins short. does that mean i need a new PSU ?

the 20pin connector you have atm will plug into that which will plug into the motherboard. (You do mean 4 pins short from the main connector right?)

Await confirmation though as im not 100% sure :p

yeah.. thers 4 pins on the side(on the mobo) that isnt connected.

and hopefully if i do that my computer will work...

i will repeat the symptoms..

i dont think the HDD is spinning.. same with the floppy disk
no beeps,
no signal on the screen. and thats about it.

im going in to town soon to get a new PSU. i need a new one anyway hopefully i will get hold of a seasonic,

thankyou

Make sure EVERYTHING is plugged into the motherboard, the 20/24pin connector (buy an adapter if you're using a 20 pin PSU) and the separate 4 pin connector. The board will power up with just the 24 pin connected, but you'll get nothing until the separate 4 pins are connected.

right. i just got new PSU but nothings happerning,...

im so scared it might not work in the end..... and i dont want to send my mother board back !!!

This will not be solved or be caused by the 4 pin component missing, this sounds like either the wrong ram or a goosed Mother Board i am afraid to say.

If you can... try as much of the hardware u can in another machine.

If not RMA the board.

Are you saying that the 20 pin connector leaves 4 pins exposed or that there is a totally separate 4 pin connector next to the 20 pin ? I only ask because my psu required both the 20pin connector and a 4 pin 12v connector to be attached also - I know its obvious but just checking.

yeah my mobo requires 24 pin and a 4 pin.

Im starting to think my bios is broken...

OK something wierd just happend, i tried my old BIOS which i was going to send back and this time, the 2 sata HDDs other than my other 160 gb actually started to spin.

so maybe the new bios they sent us is wrong.

how am i going to explain this to rizwan...

what version is the new bios they sent you ? and have you tried the board with a non conroe chip ?

you need at least (701) bios to be able to boot with a conroe chip and to my knowledge asus are shipping boards with 604 atm (thats what mine had when i got it a week ago)

i have just noticed asus have released a new bios today (801) dont know what the fixes are ...

Shimy.

Take a step back and run through your manual slowly and carefully, making sure you have everything plugged in, and plugged in in the correct slot.

I remember once wondering why i couldnt get a PC to boot, and after a good while noticed i hadnt put in the 4 pin plug next to the CPU. :o

Simple things like leaving the CPU fan header not connected can also cause a PC not to boot.

Re-check all the simple stuff first before you jump to any conclusions about non-working components.

[edit] Oh yeah, do you get any beeps?? [\edit]

i have pretty much.... and no i dont get any beeps. im not even sure if my CPU is getting power as after i turn the PC off ( even tho nothing works) the CPU is still room temperature.

Im so tired of ASUS i just want a refund and get the other conroe mobo.. forgot what its called.

i was so quite at work everyone was wondering what was going on with me.....

im that depressed

Have you tried the standard test then?

Disconnect everything it doesnt need to start up the mobo (i.e. disk drives, memory, GPU). And then see if you get beeps.

If you dont then chances are it is a mobo issue, as you've tried a PSU replacement.

so it *should* beep if i take EVERTYING out expect the PSU and the power switches etc etc.??

thats probs the best thing iv heard today thanks will try it after dinner.

EDIT> Ok tried and the same expected results.

so i guess i will have to send it to ASUS then.

Aye,

And after that (should it fail), you should try removing the motherboard from the case (place on an antistatic material), then connect it up and see if it works. This will rule out a short between mobo and case.

In my experience that says motherboard is not well.

Always useful to hit the mobo forum and ask for a second opinion, telling them what you have done so far.

[edit] Have you tried it with and without the CPU in (without all the other devices)?? I've heard some of these conroe boards need an old 775 CPU to boot until you can flash them to conroe enabled BIOS[\edit]
