Mainly for CAD, multi-monitor and multi-tasking work- would a lesser gfx card be suitable? I could also replace the PSU with a Seasonic S12 or Enermax Liberty. What's suitable PSU 400/500W?

If you can stretch a bit for the 7900GS, which is faster

If it was me I'd drop the CPU to E6300 and get X1800 XT and swap WD for Seagate Cuda 7200.10.

Having said that for your uses do you need that kind of grunt? Are you planning to overclock? If not then maybe lesser graphics card and faster processor is better for you.

Do your CAD programs have 3D image windows, that kinda thing? I'd imagine they won't be that advanced but never know. If not then I'd say an X300 would do yeah, what kind of resolutions are we talking between the monitors?
