Hello there.

I was wondering, what would be the cheapest, but effective setup for conroe, I wish to replace the Motherboard,CPU and RAM on my old setup. I just wanted to know, howmuch would it come to. Id look it up myself, but I dont really know what to look for and im at work :p

My current set up is:

AMD 3700+ @ 2.6Ghz
X1800XT 256mb
1gb corsair ram
Asus A8V-E SE motherboard
Thermaltake, i think 480watt psu.. seems the thermaltake arent showing up on the site now..

Also would it be worth it, in a gaming sense. I do multi-task abit, now.. but game more :)

You can go even cheaper if:

a) you change that mobo for the other asrock board, this one has 3 pci slots the other has 2 so depends how many pci devices you have really...

b) I would go for at least 2g - you mentioned you game....well most latest games take 1.4g and use like 60% of the dual core processor - which kinda answers how useful the cpu would be

Do you plan on overclocking, Deception? If so that Asrock board won't cut the mustard. You'll have to move up a bit to something like the Gigabyte DS3.

Yea, I plan on overclocking. Thanks so far. :D I do play Battlefield 2142 abit too, as it seems it needs 1.5gb of ram.

Would I see somewhat of an improvement over my current setup too?

I could perhaps get some cash towards it, if I sell some of the parts im swapping out for em. I do have a X1600XT lying around, from when I swapped it out with the X1800Xt. Could add that to it and get some cash.

You will likely see a huge difference in games that were previously bottlenecked by your CPU, however if all you play are the newest and latest titles such as BF2142 then you won't see much difference at all because they are limited by your 1800XT, assuming you have all settings on high with AA + AF.

And yes definetely put some more cash into a better mobo, HSF, and RAM if you are planning to oc your new rig.

Well I have no high settings, they're all on medium or lower, to limit the map loading times  I guess its just a matter of pricing up my equipment to see howmuch I can get for em. Cheers.

So what would be the best ram for OC'n.. as it seems Ive got abit more cash to spend, and so far chosen the E6300 and DS3 motherboard, so its just the ram I need to choose. :D

Thans in advance.

*Edit* from reading other threads here, it seems that Geil is a good choice. would that be right? Oh before I forget, a decent cooler. Ive been looking at the Artic cooler Freezer 7 Pro. It seems ok for the money.
