Use to have ihs-less fx60 at 1.52v and that had a 5 degree difference in temp between idle and load. Just switched to conroe with asus p5wdg2 ws pro board and get 12 degree difference between idle and load at stock volts. Are conroes that much hotter?

Cooling is:
Nexxxos xp bold
he120.3 rad
eheim1250
All 1/2"

Conroes are meant to run cooler,

My Spec in sic has a 10 degree difference between idle and 100% load, cooling on air, is your rig overclocked at all?

No its all at stock at the moment. Cant work out why such a large temp diff. Theres no ihs bad contact with core problem on conroes is there like on amd s939?

your fx60 temps were probably a little wrong. i think the diff would be more 5-10 degrees between idle and load which is what you are seeing with your conroe.

I've got the same stepping E6600 as you.

Running at stock volts and 2.7GHz, I'm getting 27 degrees idle and 38 full load.

I'm running a P5W DH Deluxe and a Tuniq Tower cooler.

My 6600 is running @ 3.6 using 1.5Vcore.
Xp block and Pa120.2 rad with the x1900 in the loop.
34 idle 48 100% orthos loaded.

I go from 36/34 at idle to 42/41 under orthos load, these temps are read from TAT but when I use TAT to stress it shoots up to 48/47. It is an E6400 @ 3.2ghz with 1.375v cooled with the swiftech apex kit and my 1900xtx in the loop. Games seem to mimic orthos temps so I don’t know why TAT kicks out more heat.

EDIT:/ room temp is 21c and case is 24c, rad mounted in top of case. Also have EIST enabled.

I went from about 35 idle 60 load to 30 idle 45 load by lapping the IHS on my E6600.

Cooling:- Storm, PA120.3

hmm, i'll give that a try after i remount block again.

what mobo you using ?

Knew it would be you Jokester, somebody man enough to give these a good lapping.

Concorde's too scared :p

im thinking the IHS on my chip aint flat, im getting hitting 60c with e6400 at 3.5ghz with 1.5v. Thats being cooling with an AquaXtreme block, ddc ultra and pa120.2
Thing is though the ihs i found it hard to tell how unflat the ihs actually is? whats best way to measure this?

E6400 at 1.4V 3200MHz with scythe ninja ran passive in my windtunnel (the only good thing about this case i think, eventhough i had to *modify* it a little to get it to fit.

Belive it or not it idles at 36-38 and loads at 53-55

When you are talking about temps then it is much better to state where you are getting your temps from. PC Probe/speedfan take there readings from the motherboard sensor whereas TAT and Core temp take them direct from the CPU.

You will notice as much as 20c difference from using Pcprobe to CoreTemp.

26c with 1.63vcore - I know I'm under water but 26c? I think not!

Core Temp shows 41c with same settings.

Ted. The IHS on your CPU is more than likely concave which is giving you high temps - get the Wet&Dry out, I wouldn't recommend de-lidding the conroe as I've seen too many horror stories.

Thanks for all the replys guys. Its good to know that most people get 10 degrees difference. Just run core temp and that reports my full load temp by couple of degrees.

Stepping of my conroe is L628B050 so hopefully should live up to its stepping and give some clocks.
