Conroe...too soon to tell ?

I know, I have seen one do 468 with stock NB etc. but then with the RAM I had it was either mess about and spend more getting better or just go with this board as I knew the RAM would reach it's max before the board or CPU.

The point I'm trying to make (and it would seem failing :p) is that the AB9's are much more limited in terms of max FSB than the likes of the P5B or DS3.
It took a LOT of work to get this AB9 up to 512 FSB, whereas the P5B ran to 525 with ease. The AB9 took a significant vMCH increase to get to 512 too, much more than is probably safe :p
The 1066 strap run on the AB9 hinders the max FSB overclock of the boards which is oh so important for the lower multi chips like the 6300 and 6400. Basically they overclock like the 975 boards do......

Hmm, I was the first one that said it was 'only 410fsb'... I have been agreeing with you. I just stated the reasons I went with this board

Lol ok sorry for the mis-understanding mate

yeah the DS3 is proberbly best non-680 board out there for OC, and i would go for E6400 to be honest, for higher multiplier :) and its only about 15 pounds more than E6300 retail, put the CPU and NB under water and watch it take off into hyperspace :p

I was leaning towards the E6400...seen a few go for reasobale money recently too.

LOL, Re water.....I am still quite green on Air,..I think I would make a horrible mess with water :o
I will be a total noob again as all I have learned thus far is AMD64 related, lots of reading ahead me thinks.

Oh and I need a better case but thats a whole different topic and thread :D

im waiting for K8 refresh then deciding on an upgrade, this is it boys, its either gonna be K8 Rev. F2 or conroe, either way in the next month or so im gonna decide on either one or the other  if K8 rev. F2 is fair bit cheaper than conroe and clocks well (3.4Ghz hopefully) i will stick with AMD and finally put system under water, already got most of the parts to do so, just need CPU block :)
