Just got my nexus 6 and it asked me about installing google now so i thought okay give it a quick go. It has now installed a background app on my computer i just saw it come up in the bottom corner, and phone collects location data etc.

What do people think about this service? Do the benefits outweigh the lack of privacy? Tempted to turn it off as not sure i would ever use it but if its a really good feature then i would rather give it a go. But the fact it has installed a background application on my computer is a bit annoying.

You can uninstall the extension and set Chrome to not run in the background if it bothers you. I have Google Now on and removed the extension as I don't need it on the PC.

Personally I don't really use Google Now that much either. I only have it on as I heard Android Wear watches works better with it on, but even then I'm not sure if I really need it on. I find these predictive cards pretty annoying to be honest :p.

I use it all the time.
Tells me the weather forecast at home and for work. Has commute times for work and when I'm travelling it shows me route and time to get home.

Also, it pulls emails and calender events and shows me them. Its good at eBay too.

Those notifications come through on my moto360 too which is "handy".

It also shows me the daily offers at OCUK and articles from AndroidPolice as it knows I visit them a lot.

I really like Google Now, I really like having a load of information centred in one place.

The "where you parked the car" bit, is a gimmick. Everything else though... All seems useful stuff.
It knows news stories I am interested in, it tells me when the traffic is awful, picks up on things I am doing and tells me if something will be late.
When out of the UK, I think it's awesome to have a quick place to go to see what's near, what the exchange is, how to say some stuff...

Love it.

It's very good. I had to arrange a last-minute trip down south earlier this year for a funeral which meant arranging car park, flights, car rental, hotel etc. Google Now was able to 'grab' most of the important information about these things from my email and put it all on one place so I could see it at a glance, even telling me what time to leave my house by to get to the airport. Helped take a lot of the stress and worry out of the trip.

Yep, I think it's great.

I needed to go to a work destination, so I looked it up on Google Maps via Chrome on my PC, and within minutes my phone was giving me the estimated time to that location - so when I went out to the car to actually drive there, I just had to tap a couple of buttons to set it off navigating, without having to actually find it on the phone.

Plus all the other details it pulls from the calendar and emails, and updates to websites I often browse, it's all very cool.

It's a good personal assistant and always updates with relevant information for me. I don't rely on it, but it is definitely a useful tool.

I think it's very good, love how it tracks purchased items, hotel bookings, shares etc. Travel information is also good.

On another note, how does one remove the work address? I don't have a set address for work and for some reason Google Now selected a place in Brighton as the work address, even though I work within London. The work field is empty on Google Maps...

Leave it on for the sole reason that if there is traffic on my journey, it pops up.

Other day M1 had a crash and my phone knew before any sign showed me. Rerouted me and was 10 minutes late.

Another time A50 crash. Got to work the same time as usual following the route.
