Conservatory upgrades

I’ve got the same issue with a 5x4m conservatory. Our is actually solid walls on both sides (narrow garden) with bifold at the end and glass roof. I had a look at the insulation, my only worry is that over the last 4 years we have had occasional water leaks with heavy rain. Has anyone done it?

The inlaws did it, Complete waste of money imo,

We removed the roof and fitted one of the new light weight roofs supalight, cost a little more but much much better.

We had a "conservatory" built in the summer. Its more brick than glass though and has a Metrotile roof which arrives and is assembled just like a meccano kit. There was 100mm of insulation in the roof, then the plasterboard had a further 50mm on the back.
It stayed cool in the summer, and we use a small oil radiator for the cooler days. It warms up very quickly and stays warm.
Ours is 4.1 x 3.6. All I had to do was send a letter to all attached neighbours. They had 2 weeks to object.
The only drawback to the solid roofs is light. Its made our living room very dark, but its changed our home for the better in so many other ways.

Ill see if I can find some pics..

definetly appears a good proper roof is the way to go to make the room usable. since we moved into our house on november 1st, we've not gone into the conservatory to do anything other than pass through. it's a total waste of space at the moment

What’s the definition of a “little more”? If you don’t mind me asking of course. The DIY option I linked to above I’ve priced up at £500 all in.

2.5k by the time all the electrics, plastering and finishing was done. Never lifted a finger for any of apart from paying the bills :)

There was not very much to it, all they did was take off the old polycarb roof, dropped some in wood beams and dropped on dropped on the roof.

I should mention this was also "mates" rates, Apparently as its the in thing to do prices are artificially high.

I just asked my neighbour, who owns a roofing company and fits Supalight roofs and has just fitted his own conservatory with a Supalight roof how much it cost. To him, just to buy was £6k. He said that he couldnt even buy the composite aluminium frame for £2.5k so you got an insane deal. I watched them fit his and it took them 3 days, including stripping the old one, fitting the new one and flashing it.

just had a quote to fully remove our old conservatory and replace with a new one (now called orangery) with a better roof that's less glass, though still a good chunk of it is.

below is the image he sent over and quoted £14.4k. not too bad, but i wonder how much benefit we would see with this roof style? he said it will help keep the temp better in summer and winter, but could be saying just what we want to hear.

thoughts?
