Hi all,

this may be a really stupid question, but I need some advice and have tried googling to no avail...

Basically I have a low-end core2duo machine running with an old IDE hdd at the mo, the time has come to upgrade...

Am looking at the 1tb caviar green, would this run on such a machine, or do you need 64bit or anything like that to handle such a hdd?

Cheers

it will be fine. However i'm not sure what type of performance you will get when running the OS on a green drive. I have one in my htpc, but it's only used as storage.

IMO don't use these huge drives for OS, partitioned or otherwise. It's a lot of data to potentially lose through corruption etc.

Get a 1tb for storage, and a 160/320 or similar for the OS :)
