Considering a Lumia 1020 but have a few concerns

One last thing and probably the most important does windows 8.1 support blacklisting like android does ? I had set up blocking on private numbers so when ever someone withhold their numbers like telemarketers and call me they just receive a beep beep and their call dropped. As now im on an old nokia im getting phone calls again from them.

I ended up paying £200 for a brand new unlocked black 64GB model. First impressions are good - it's not quite as quick as iOS, but it feels a lot smoother than many of the android phones I've used, which seem to occasionally lag for no apparent reason.

I don't think I've explored even 10% of what it can do, but I'm having fun messing around with it: in particular I really like the way the standby screen displays the time and any notifications, and the customisation available on the lock screen.

The whole OS looks really good, and although I'm not quite as quick on it as I am on iOS, I'm sure that'll improve with use. I've also downloaded a decent google maps client which, although not quite as good as the real thing, allows easy navigation to POIs, which was my main concern. Nokia Drive and Waze will probably handle most of my needs.

I haven't actually taken many photos with it yet, but first impressions are good - it's certainly a lot better than my iPhone which isn't exactly lacking in the camera department. Battery life is surprisingly good: I was doing loads of downloading and messing around on it today and I'm still at around 40%.

I think overall it was a good buy, but the real test will be in a few weeks time when I'm using it daily.

Was this a one-off price or is it more widespread? Also, weren't all the 64GB models locked to a Telefonica network, so if yours is unlocked then surely it cannot, strictly speaking, be 'new' (though it could be 'as new', i.e. unused).

One off - I got it from a private eBay seller. It was new in that it was still sealed in the box. It was locked to O2 but he supplied the unlock code with it - I've been using my spare Vodafone SIM and it's working perfectly.

I am also in the same boat, its a great phone and about to pull the triger but as a phone is its very outdated. If they releaed it with 930 specs but with 1020 cammer then I would buy it in a snap. I cant believe nokia is shooting themselves by not releasing such a phone.

I was going to go with Z2 but with Z3 only 2 months away its not worth it to purchase that either.

I've yet to hit the limit of my 920, in terms of RAM and Processor.

On a Windows Phone, the experience of my missus' 820 to my 920 and my bro's 520 is minimal, and the 520 has half the RAM. Only issue his 520 faced was some games not supported initially.

On the 1020, I really can't see how increased processor can make or break a deal when the camera is so good. 1.5 years on my 920 and it still feels as fast and slick as it was back when I first had it. Only recently had to format my phone for the 8.1.1 update.

That's the sleekness I love about WP.

I do agree with you generally, hut the hardware is out dated. I like to read PDF files, mathematical type, on the phone, i found it much more comfortable on a 5inch screen with higher resolution. The difference for me was quite pronounced and i would like to tether my phone to laptop and the batter in the z2 is better than the 1020. It could so with processor update for more demanding games, software. I know the 1020 has quite slow at taking rapid pictures.

I've had the phone a while now and I'm really pleased with it. The offline use of Nokia Drive is incredibly good as you can navigate to anywhere regardless of signal, and I'm incredibly pleased with the camera. Here's a few shots I've taken:

Dear god that camera for a mobile really is something, assuming those are compressed as well for online.

I would happily chop in my Nexus 5 for a Lumia 1020, the only thing holding me back is the lack of apps on Windows and the fact that my Asus NAS doesn't have Windows apps yet. I love the pureview camera on the lumia 1020 and I don't think it will be surpassed in a long time.

Can you not use Plex? It works fine for me but I don't use Asus NAS.

As for the lack of apps, I've not reached that point where I think I could do with an app that Android or iOS have. Plenty of third party alternatives being better than official, so you really need to name your apps and I'm sure someone will recommend an alternative.

Unless Official apps is the be all and end all for you.

I need AiRemote which is the official Asus NAS control app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asustor.boxee&hl=en_GB

I use Aviation Weather for my flying, weather and notams, currently starting to fly gliders and I also am an aviation fan.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=europe.de.ftdevelop.aviation.weather&hl=en_GB

Need banking apps and good media apps for Iplayer, TVcatchup etc. Also Reddit and Instagram.

Can't help on the Asus NAS control app, I just use Plex for streaming from my networked spare drive, which is easily accessed by my laptop if I want to swap or update files.

Avaition Weather app such as Metar Weather Map?
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/store/app/metar-weather-map/f901b638-2d6d-49f0-8daa-32cacbe41a8c

As for banking, which bank? Natwest = best, others are mostly web-wrapped apps, like mine, Lloyds works, but nothing special like my missus Natwest, which is fast.

Iplayer, checked. (No download yet though)
TV Catchup, checked.
Reddit - Try Baconit, brilliant Reddit interface.
Instagram, checked, but it's in Beta. I use that but I also use 6tag. Most of 6-something apps by Rudy are better than official (if any)

Thanks for those, when the wife comes home later I will checks the app store in her Lumia 820, it got the 8.1 update yesterday, so I will see what is available. I wish they did the lumia with a full HD screen and Pureview.

This is the same as i've been feeling lately, but watching to see what MS announce in the way of new versions, the smaller screen is the only thing putting me of the 1020.

Exactly in the same boat, trying to hold off the 1020 till Z3 prices come down a little and then will decide which to get, if Microsoft released a 1020 successor then there is no choice really, as i prefer better camera.
