I'm umming and arring over this, putting pc upgrade off until GTA 5 comes out for PC, I like Windows 8 and I like touchscreen, just 700 quid seems quite a price.

I presume in terms of multitasking and most things its going to be faster than my current rig, and it is portable, so it seems better. My laptop is dieing so need a replacement, would a tablet like the Surface be worth the outlay?

Perhaps there is alternative to the Surface just as good?

Aren't the Surface's getting a reduction in price? (might have already happened)

Would you need the Pro? Or would a RT suffice? Obviously the benefits of running third-party app's on the Pro make up for some of the price.

He's talking about pc gaming, he needs the pro.

It's not particular expensive. It's ultra book specs for ultra book prices, in a tablet form.
However I wouldn't buy one now, it's getting a heft refres, likely to find out full details at win8.1 launch and it should be significantly better. Not only does haswell increase battery life by ~2hrs (albeit it not when gaming) the GPU is far better on haswell chips, meant to also have 8Gb ram instead of 4 and an updated keyboard.

I wonder how much the Pro 2 will be? I think I'm going to wait and buy a Pro 2, just as long as it's not breaking £700.

There is going to be a launch event on the 23rd so you should know then. Should be on sale on or around 18th of October when Windows 8.1 is out.
