Have been looking at I ram devices over the last couple of days and can pick one up for under 100 quid, which seems pretty decent,

anyone know how much of a performance benefit can be had from running an I- ram as a boot disk.

and is there a newer version allowing ddr2 ram to be used?

never mind hust read the wiki theres a i-ram 2 on the go with support for 8 gig of ddr2 on sata2

anyone know how this would compare to say a scsi setup or a raid setup on sata?

They can be had for not a lot on a well known auction site if you're lucky as they were something of an oddity gaining little in the way of acclaim/support. That said they are reasonably quick, just a shame DDR is expensive in comparison to DDR2 or it would be a tempting option but for similar money you could have 1TB of traditional storage compared to an i-ram and 4GB.
