Considering an S5, other options?

Hi,

I currently have a Z4 3.0Si Coupe Sport, and am to be honest tired of it, the rides harsh even with the non-runflats, the economy is terrible and the space is appalling, its just such a chore to drive. Top of my replacement considerations in the S5, are there any other choices, my priorities are max 2 yrs old, upto £35k, at least 4 seats, and decent size boot, at least close in performance to the Z4, fuel economy is not a big issue but nothing worst than the S5 will give. And I am not considering another BMW.
 
And an S5 is going to be economical and spacious with a soft ride is it?? :/

EDIT: Oh, and why not another BMW?
 
So you dont like your car because the ride is harsh and it isn't very economical, so you wish to go for an Audi S5, where the ride is harsh and it's even less economical.

Did you bother to do any research before buying the Z4 Coupe? It's not and has never been a comfy Coupe, it's a hard edged, lairy, niche market car. Thats the point. To not buy another BMW because you didnt like this one when its clearly obvious it never suited your requirements from the start seems a bit daft. The obvious rival to the S5 - a car considered to be better to drive - is a 335i M Sport but you wont have another BMW, so go and buy the Audi.

Before reading any of the replies about it not able to be a BMW the first thing that came to my head was a 6 series.

The funny thing is that, as 3 litre cars go, the BMW N52 engine is *very* economical. Certainly more so than anything with a Supercharged V6 or a V8 from Audi with an 'S5' badge on the back!

Really?

My impression is its a WAGS car thats good fun to drive but would suit a long cruise quite well, its not exactly an Elise which covers all the things you pointed out the Z4 for being.

I know, but i honestly couldn't be bothered to question why he was moaning about how a 3.0l I6 wasn't economical, but a 4.2 V8 was just pukka.
 
Nah missed that bit, teach me for speed reading at work, puts a slightly different spin on things, so yep i agree.

Only picked that bit out since the OP's post doesn't really add up so cba to comment directly on it.
 
I think he says it all in the first line... "to be honest i'm tired of it". What more excuse does he need tbh.

The S5 looks like a fine motor, and i'd be surprised if it isnt more supple etc given its a much bigger car (longer, wider, taller, heavier) and will likely be an auto at a guess.

I thought the opposite.

Comparing it to my dad's '99 S500 (this is the only 'cruiser' I have recent memory of a lengthy motorway trip) it was hardly bad at all; laid back and effortless. It was CERTAINLY more comfortable than the E90 (M-Sport). There was more road noise on the motorway, but that is to be expected without double glazing and lower profile tyres*

*However; the engine symphony made up for it!

None at all, if he fancies a new car, great. But how can he expect us to help him chose one if he lists the things he hates about his current car and then tells us what he wants next only to pick a car which is worse in every respect pretty much?
 
Up to 2 years old, 4 seats, up to £35k, good boot space, better ride quality, fairly rapid...

looked at an S5 before buying a 335i M sport Coupe, I did not like the position of the pedals as they were offset from the driving position too far for my liking and didn't think I could live with that.
 
The problem is the XF is totally opposite to what the OP has... tbh you'd probably get bored because it 'too safe'.
