After building a pc for the Ms in the week it has given me the bug to buy a new one. Currently I have the following

i7 950
12 gb ram
250GB 830
MSI 970
Corsair H50 cooler
Silverstone FT02 case

I wouldn't need to buy a new graphics card and the SSD is fine for now. I was looking at cases and see my FT02 still goes for a pretty high price! My motherboard is a little old, a Gigabyte UD3R I think if I remember correctly. The ssd isn't running at full speed due to sata speed limitations on the motherboard. Would there be much of an increase in performance by buying a newer processor? I have been looking at 5820k. For that, the motherboard, ram and cooler it would be around £600. I was considering swapping cases as well because this thing is bulky so that is another £100 give or take. It seems like quite a lot of money for what isn't a completely new build.

Any performance increase will be entirely dependant on what you use it for. 3D Rendering? Then yes a good jump in performance. Gaming? Not so much.

But if you fancy an upgrade then get one - no need to justify it.
