Considering buying iPhone and iTouch

I'd say so, touch screen/wifi/full qwerty keyboard and other tricks definately sets it apart.

The only thing i really miss is a decent camera and video recording.

Any suggestions/opinions are really welcome.

Since when does the iphone have a qwerty beyboard built in? There is about 15 xda phones with those features. And many more, eg mms.

Thanks for all the help everyone :)

I think in the end i have decided on an iPod touch and possibly an N82 when it is out. Reason being is while i really do love the iPhone, which is near perfect at just being a phone, i need a better camera in the phone really, and i'm paying for an iPod phone when i would only be using the phone. Camera is really important to me, as i think i would feel ridiculous carrying around a compact camera, not to mention it would be annoying, but these are the times when you really need a camera.

N82 will do everything i need and look nice too. And the iTouch will have enough storage for enough songs and some nice photos taken with the N82 :D

I'm still after any input from anyone, and will still be going back to look at the iPhone and the 6500 classic, N82, and N95 8gb. If anyone has any pictures taken by an iPhone, if possible could you post them please. :)

I've got a touch and was going to to sell it and buy an iPhone. The more I think about it though I think I may get a 6500 classic and keep the touch.

I'm now considering a Touch, i really love the idea, but I'm faced with a question.

My parents are in the US atm and I have the option of asking them to get one while they are there for me, but what warranty problems will I be facing? Is Apple's a worldwide support thing?

/forget it, just found t'other thread. If I can pull the funds out the i think i'll get an 18gb. I also have an N95 so should be covered :)
The Nokia isn't really an mp3 phone at all, its lousy battery life sees to that.
Can I get it laser engraved in any Apple store, whether Brit or US?

I really don't understand this. The phone features are by far the biggest weakness of the iPhone.

The lack of 3G or even HSDPA on an internet enabled device is laughable these days. And no MMS?

It's basically a Touch with some cack phone features built in, and sold on an extortionate contract.

Anybody who buys one of these over the combination of a decent phone and and IPod touch is either a mug, very short on pocket space, or has more money than sense.

Personally, i like it. By just being a phone i mean SMS/phone/visual voicemail, etc. I don't care about MMS that much, hardly ever use it.

But as i said, i think i will be going for the touch/phone combo. Possibly N82/6500 classic.

In your opinion. I'm in a position where I have both an N95 and an iPhone and I find the iPhone a much more capable device, especially when jailbroken. EDGE is nowhere near as slow as people who have never used it make out, and browsing is MUCH faster than on my N95 which is fiddly as hell. I can ssh from the iPhone properly, with the N95 and Putty it was next to useless and so slow to type in commands. IRC is much better on the iPhone than on the N95. I'm even running an Apache webserver on mine!

My N95 is mostly gathering dust on the shelf now, unless I need a decent camera. However I'm tempted to sell the N95 and get myself a compact digital camera instead, then I'll have much better pictures and won't have to keep changing SIMs if I'm going somewhere I need a camera.

So you're basically saying you type faster using your fingernails than you do a tactile keypad? Interesting... I'd be interested to see how well you apparently use SSH and IRC in anger...

Also comparing the N95 and a jailbroken iPhone is hardly a fair comparison. Apple never intended you to do half of the things you've mentioned and it's only made possible by voiding the warranty (yes you can argue the semantics of flashing it back if it came to it, etc but the point is still valid).

I can type much faster (probably over 5 times) on the virtual keyboard on the iPhone than I can on a numeric keypad yes. I was sceptical at first but now I can type really quickly with it. I can also send breaks, press TAB, ctrl-c etc easily with the ssh client. Also I can easily type things like the pipe symbol. Fingernails are not required by the way, normal fat mens fingertips are fine.

My warranty isn't void at all, you've already explained why for me, so thanks :). Do you want to buy my N95, I'll be selling it soon I think.

Not worth starting a new thread, there are very recent reports of the microphone port still being present on the iPod Touch, and that this can be accessed with an external mic and some wire messing. That WOULD be a good development...
