Hi guys, thinking its about time to get rid of my Alfa 147 as I am tbh bored of it and doesnt have the thrill it use to. Have seen some nicely prices Audi TT's on autotrader seem resonably specced, but are all LHD.

Questions, how will it compare handling wise to my 147 I am looking at the 180 Quattro version (how tunable is this engine?) also acceleration and pokeyness. Is there anything wrong with buying LHD. From what I can see theres no differnce in insurance infact its not stated on Direct Lines policys (gonna go with then because they give named drivers NCD also), plus its about £80 more to insure it than my 147. Are there any things to look out for in these cars? I assume Audi has good build quality from previously owning an Audi A2.

Finally is they anything else within the £9k bracket thats resonably speced and doesnt look dated, based on my choice of a TT and coming from an Alfa, needs to be same insurance category as TT or less and prefereable not too old/ requires little to no maintanence, I'm a lazy kinda guy.

Cheers guys.

Is that reason enough? :p

hehe hairdresser comments aside, I am left handed so thus should have more control with that hand so shouldnt bother me too much in the side change over right handed gear change my be odd though.

Why on earth would you want to buy a LHD car when they were available here in RHD form? I just dont understand, if it was a yank import or something then yes, but a TT? Enjoy never being able to overtake again and scaring the hell out of your passengers trying ;)

LHD does affect insurance premiums.

Just try to do an overtaking manouver past a juggernaught and you'll see why.

Personally i wouldnt bother - there's a reason that they are so cheap - because no one wants them in the UK.

There's going to be enough fun RHD cars out there for 9k i'm sure.

As for tuning, they are eas enough to get over 200bhp out of them with an ECU re-map, tyres wear slightly quicker due to it being 4wd too.

Insurance is not a big problem with a LHD tt.

First, I would not bother with the 180. for 9k you can get a 2000 TTc 225. I think it uses a bit less fuel, its faster, insurance is not too much more, it has a better spec (xenon headlamps full leather), 4X4…..its just a better car for not much more money and resell will be much better. For the resale try to get one with the Bose system, almost all of them have it anyway. Don’t worry about C.Control you can have this fitted your self for £175.

It’s a big step up from the 147 and you will actually be able to drive it as it will not be in the dealer getting fixed every month:D

Things to look out for
Mass Airflow (cheap to fix)
Dash pod (VERY expensive to fix) check that the fuel gauge corresponds to the DIS.
The volume knob on the radio when cold.
If the ESP and ABS lights are on that lateral or longitudinal sensor needs to be replaced
Check that the coolant temperature does not fluctuate on long drive.
Try to get one that has had the cambelt changed (cots £500)

Tuning. Well there it a lot that can be done to the 225 for very little money.
First get a Revo Stage one and buy a SPS3 (which will bump it to 260 bhp)
Miltek SS cat back system.

If your still hungry for more power go for the revo stage 2.
De-Cat, 3 bar fuel pressure regulator, induction kit which should push out around 285 bhp.

Oh and get some nice alloys, the Audi RS TT (225,40,18) alloys are very nice, if you can find them the TT QS alloys (235.40.18) are even better

Oh and www.ttforums.com

Oh and forget all the people that will tell you its gay, I normally only get comments like that from people that cant afford one lol.

And what would you rather, an STi that will make all the young boys turn and look at your car or a TT that will make the girls turn and look? lol

At the end of the day it’s a quick 4 wheel drive car with a lot of toys that is relatively practical and reliable for very little money.

oh and Watch out for the over steer when taking corners too fast.

I took the STi. If you need a certain type of car to pull some fluff, perhaps something else is missing?

LOL I did not say you need the car but it helps:D

I did take an STI out however the main problem was that everyone wanted to race me off the lights and no one would give me way when trying to pullout of side streets. Its much more of a drivers car and not for someone that wanted something with lots of toys and happens to go fast which is what the TT was.

Fair enough. But just for the record, I can stuff 4 small teenage boys under my rear spoiler compared to your one undiscovered Czech supermodel you can cram into your TT.

A selling point Subaru has yet to capitalise on. :D

You might want to rephrase that....

I would get sick very quickly of being on the wrong side for car park ticket machines, toll booths and not being able to overtake safely, just isn't worth it imo. Raise your budget 2k and get a rhd 225.

I still really like the TT, interior is a nice place to be. plenty fast, feels solid on the road from the passenger seat.

Lol yes that is one of the problems with the TTr, I cant even fit anything in the back.

What? i was seriously impressed with the TT's rear load space with the back 'seats' folded down, considering it's size. My friend's dad sticks his mountain bike in the back of his TT every week :p

unless you were referring to the rear 'seats', and yes they are appauling, but i have been in it with 4 other people :p

thanks for all the input guys, unfortunately £9k is my limit as I dont intent to use finance (my view is if I have to finance it I cant afford it). Anything else within that price range, based on my initial choice of a TT moving from an Alfa 147?

Consided a scooby but while they are nice machines and all I just dont envision owning one, not quite my cuppa.
