Considering dropping out of PhD

Not that it matters, but I envy all doctorate candidates and graduates (Minus the people whom purchased a doctorate from Spain in the field of 'The minds of cats' for a fee of 400 Euros :P) because I would love to have that opportunity myself, and work on a subject I admire. Yet I am stuck in a menial retail job, where if I drew a graph of the hierarchy, the salary increases as the IQ decreases ten fold..

Before you quit because you are having a minor hiccup in your doctorate, think about the people that would love to be in your position.

You'd be surprised how many PhD's are available. If you have a degree you could probably get one without too much difficulty. If you don't have a degree, get one! :)

I did one too. If you don't want a career in academia - quit now. You'll really miss those years in terms of career development.

Depends on your area - many people who earn a PhD in our department and the other sciences/engineering go into industry, either as senior R&D or as leaders/managers. PhD is not just for academia - most of the top boards of companies such as Shell will have a Dr. prefix!

Aye probably true Dave, depends on your area of study. In some parts of academia everyone is so far detached from the real world they might as well live on another planet.
