4 months ago I bought a Silverstone Raven Rv-01TB and its an awesome case, looks great :

But its huge. Before I bought it I double checked the size of it all and i thought it would be manageable but . . . well, I move from home to Uni quite regularly and having this huge case is kinda awkward.

I funded the Raven by trading my old CM-690 with a friend (who was looking to build a PC) for some archery equipment which I sold for £100 - so it only really cost me £20. My friends mum since decided to be a real pain in the butt and stop him building one and instead got an 'IT Pro' from work to build one (which is majorly underpowered and already quite outdated, and he configured wrong . . . spent all yesterday fixing it). So he gave me the CM-690 back. Im sizing them up next to each other and am seriously considering switching back.

The 690 was great in its own right, plenty of room and as solid construction as any ive used.

I think I would need to get some decent fans in there - prefferably quiter running ones and looking at it all i think i would need to spend £40-60. Which means I would need to sell the Raven for £60/£80 to break even.

Basically just wanting your opinions + input. What would u do ?
:D

Don't do it, they case is way too pretty to swap for a 690.
But it really depends how often you go back and foward really to see if it's worth the choice or not.

Lol, I knew there would be mixed opinions on this - these are horrible cases imo :
Haf 932
Cosmos S
Cosmos 1000
Stacker 830
Storm Scout
Storm Sniper
Zalman GS1000
Antec 1200
Antec 902

Anyway, I really like the design + features of the Raven.
Problem is its size, and thats all.
+the 90degree rotation actually does decreass temps (tested by lieing it on its back and stress testing etc).

They aren't horrible cases so much as not the best looking. I love the Storm Scout!

But if it's size that's important to you then switch back. You could always sell this one on the MM, there'd be a lot of interest by the looks of things :p

how offen really?

Every one always says this but tbh they dont move for 9months :D

I would consider them bad looking, probly not horrible - not all of them anyway.
I have both of them sitting in front of me and the 690 isnt better looking. Although, as has been said already, it is personnal taste so its irrelevant.

I suppose what im really looking for is useful input on keeping the 690 cool - whats the best fan setup ?
As I have 1900rpm's on my Megahalems I would need to get another one of those to take the exhaust spot surely ?

Looking back over the past year -
moved to uni,
back home for a weekend,
back to uni,
back home for around my birthday,
back to uni for a week,
back home for christmas,
back to uni,
back home for easter,
back to uni,
back home for a weekend,
back to uni for two weeks,
and back home again when the year finished.

More than average - my course is pretty heavy so i cant come home and not work, and the CAD work is painful to do on my laptop (Vista causing issues again).

I also take it to the odd LAN party type thing, so I do move it about. And most of the PCs Ive built for those LAN guys have been mATX's lol.

Im definitely not buying another case - thats just pointless.
The Storm Scout is one of the ones i really dislike too. I got my mates Storm Sniper thing in my room now and its an eye-sore. Ive not had anyone say they like it lol.

Heres what im thinking -

front intake sprayed something less vulgar.

one on top just infront of the Megahalems giving it plenty of cool air to suck through.
two on the side to cool GPUs etc

Cut out rear exhaust mesh and install one of these ontop

using the 1900rpm CPU fan to blow air straight out (clearance is very small as it is).

£53.20

Surely that should keep it at decent temps . . .

I think i might just whack the Raven on an auction site and make the swap if it sells, any opinions ?

Ok you move more than most :D
Is bulk or weight the main issue?
Although you said you didnt want a new case an aluminuim case will be a hell of a lot lighter.

& CAD s pretty painful no matter what you do it on imo :D

As for cooling I would replace the fans on the mega with 2 x noctura p12s & use what you have as case fans
