Considering to buy...

Also i would skip the ZX 1250w psu, i had one and the coil whine was immence lol, got a refund and went with the one i have now and it's silent :)

thanks for the replies guys. excuse the format of my reply as i haven't worked out how to use the multi quote function yet lol.

I have a few questions regarding the specs that have been posted above

1 - Are there any benefits of the Asrock mobo (which every suggested spec contains) over the MSI one I chose? I went for the MSI mobo as it has 3 pcie slots running at x16 (2 x 3.0 and 1 x 2.0). And most of all it looks amazing (and by throwing in the black & blue ripjaws and extreme edition MSI 580 with blue fans i think it will look pretty damn sexy lol).

2 - I fancying w7 Pro as it comes with (via download) an XP mode so I can play wait for it... Theme Hospital etc without any problems lol.

3 - The reasonings behind the R3 are because it looks very subtle, sleek, quiet, good airflow and has a nice door on the front. The Fortress 2 looks nice and i like the idea of the rotated mobo, but it doesn't have a door :-/ and the insides dont look as pretty in terms of cable management potential - as I am after a clean and tidy set up... i looked at the silencio and hush 2 but didnt like the interior of either case (and saw a review comparing the H2 and R3 and it just slated the H2). Another case i looked at was the white 600t (using the window instead of the mesh) and putting in the sound dampening kit that ocuk offers, but the R3 just seems right...

4 - why have people been suggesting 570 sli over my idea of a 580 now and another 580 in a few months time?

5 - i will be honest, i think watercooling is a little out of my league at the moment, maybe on my next build tho. the idea of water and expensive components scares me, I am taking baby steps with it (H80 cpu cooler) lol.

keep the suggestions coming please. if i am wrong about anything, i would appreciate being corrected before parting with my money ha.

Also i am quite shocked that no one has spec'd a system reaching my budget of £2k including vat / £1600 exc vat... is £2k simply not 'needed'?

Thanks :)

It is incredibly tempting... i just want to ensure im getting the best/most power for my money :-).

the budget is what i have allocated to a new system, not fussed about 'saving' the money by compromising on performance (no matter how small the increase may be), i have 2k and want the best... simples :)

Realistically anything above about 25fps looks smooth, people argue that they can see the difference between 30 and 40fps, but the only benchmark that dropped below 40 was if you're on bf:bc2 staring into a waterfall on 2500x1600 and that was still more frames than the human eye can see in a second.

Is it worth about £2-300 to eek out a few fps on some games (and lose some fps on others)? Especially since iirc those benchmarks are at standard clock speeds so there's room for over clocking too.

Edit: that *is* my choice, I'm getting one 6970 in my build with intentions to CF in the future. :)

It's still a ridiculous amount of money for a PC :)

get the Crucial M4 for the SSD
i would get SLi GTX570 and put the money towards a bigger SSD (250GB :D)
i know its your money but your spending way too much on unnecessary things like the GPU

What resolution will you be running at? How many monitors? What else besides gaming?

If you're unsure about water-cooling, maybe pay to get it fit by a pro if you get a good spec for way under budget.

Already mentioned in the first post. Used as a gaming Pc (maxing out latest titles) on a 24" 1920x1200 monitor and as a htpc linked up to an 1080p LCD with 5.1 home theatre system. Needs to be quiet, powerful, neat and tidy :-). £2000 target/maximum cost

Not interested in water cooling at the moment thanks.
