Considering upgrading from Creative T20 Speakers

If you have the space on desk your better off with studio monitors.

Even something like the Yamaha HS5 will be vastly better, built to last also. Once monitors are setup correctly you won't worry about a sub. Of course you also need a good quality source to connect to them (that adds money).

I use to run 2.1 system with with Edifier 8" sub and 4" Yamaha satellite speakers, that system was good compared to typical 2.1 systems, however once you make the move to at least good entry level monitors you never look back. Things like the quality of the amplifiers, accuracy of sound, better build construction of monitor cabinet. Also once there setup correctly you don't need DSP settings, they will sound great whatever is played on them. Downside of course is space on the desk.

Adding a sub to my standmount speakers did help, especially for action games.
