Considering upgrading GTX980ti to RTX2080ti

My current system comprises I5 [email protected] and GTX980ti.

I'm currently playing FM7 & FH4 on the XB1X, which are my favourite games.
I would like to play these games on the Pc, which is connected to a Samsung 4k TV (that I also play the XB1X through). My thoughts are that both games will look sharper with a higher frame rate. I've also been told that a wheel (which is what I use) feels more responsive on the Pc.

I realise my current Pc hardware isn't going to cut the mustard when it comes to gaming in 4k, so I'm considering a new build (current Pc is a few years old with various upgrades over time) based around a I7 9700k and GTX2080ti.

Is this going to be worth it for FM7 & FH4, or am I going to be wasting my money and time?
 
That's a major upgrade for 2 games.

I also play FH4 and FM7 on both PC and XB1X and can confirm the experience on PC is outstanding @ 4k 60 with my G29 wheel but also just a enjoyable on the Xbox, not sure a complete system rebuild is worthy, unless you have a spare £2500 lying around.
 
I spend a lot of time on both of these games, so to have them both running in 4k as smoothly as possible is worth it for me.
I run FM4 on the XB1X in performance mode, so not 4k but 60fps.
How much better do both games run on the Pc?
 
Desired effect will be achieved.

The money spent is really up to you. It is a lot of cash to put down.

You could save a bit and go for something like a 2080.

Not sure how these games run at 4k on a 2080 (probably fine) or you just make a few concessions on IQ.

At the end of the day. Up to you.

A 2080ti will get the job done handsomely art a price.
 
a 1080ti is much cheaper than the 2080ti and will still game at 4k like it was intended and will still give you the experience you want, i refuse to play these sort of games on pc when i have them on console as i see little point, but the demands shouldnt be too high.

i suppose its how the game is optimised for pc hardware, GTA5 looks better on console than my pc, but Fallout 4 looks better on pc than my xbox one s, afterall most of these games like forza will be ports.

For me i can run both @ 4K maxed out - Both titles look and feel amazing on the PC with FFB on the G29 adding to the immersion.

I only migrate to the XB1X when i fancy sitting on a sofa but then use the game pad as my G29 is not compatible with the XB - I enjoy both and as the progress syncs between the 2 i can pick up where i left off regardless of the system i am using.

I would say the PC versions of both titles are far superior and if you have the cash then you wont be disappointed.

If you have the money then 2080 Ti.

You could save some money by getting a secondhand i7 4790k as this is still a good CPU for 2160p.

I had a Titan XM - a 980 Ti with extra VRAM - running on a 3770S and gamed at 4K just fine. You won't be able to run at Ultra settings, but at superior settings to the Xbox.

In short, plug your PC into the TV and see what results you get.
 
Many thanks to everyone that has replied so far.

I think that what I will do to start is get both games running on my Pc (I will firstly have to upgrade my W7 to W10) and see what they look like and how they run in 4K, and go from there.
 
Personally a 1080ti overclocked to the gibbons would be what I’d go for.

I couldn’t justify the massive price disparity, but that’s your call.

I picked up my 1080 for £330, blocked it up, and OC’d to 2200Mhz. It runs 3440x1440 great. About 100fps. The ti is considerably faster.

I play FH 4 on the hardware i have in my sig at 4k. I use the Ultra preset with HDR enabled and get a constant 60 fps. The Forza games tend to run really good especially for the way they look. If it's just Forza games you will be playing Vega 64/1080ti will do the job and save you money. If you don't care about the money side and want the fastest then a 2080ti will do a great job in FH4 and other more demanding titles.
 
TheREalDEal - it's good to know that you can run FH4 in all its glory @60fps with the hardware in your sig.

I've agonised over whether to get a 1080ti or 2080ti and for me the 2080ti wins on the basis that;
1) A Palit 2080ti isn't that much more than a new 1080ti right now (if I could still get one. I don't fancy taking the risk on a s/h one)
2) If I believe what I read on here, then I'm concerned over future driver support for the 1080ti and think that the 2080ti driver optimisation still has a long way to go, so it seems to be the better card for the future.

The 2080ti is a great card. I like a lot of others just begrudge the asking price for it. If your heart is set on the 2080ti that's what i would go for. It won't disappoint you speed wise and if you keep it for a long time then that price tag won't be so bad.

For me, it’s no different to getting a second hand car, just way less hassle. It’s a shame you don’t have access to the MM; it’s awesome, and these days the only place I tend to buy second hand. Like I said, I picked up my 1080 for £330 and it’s overclocked to 2,200Mhz+ no probs.

I was all ready to buy the new ti, I’d have happily dropped £800 on it, an amount it’s barely worth imo. It might sound ridiculous, but I can’t so vehemently hate the price gouging, and then in good conscience contribute to the problem by buying one. Instead I built an entire mainstream system for not much more than the cost of a 2080ti, which is quite indicative of the value it represents. Until prices are sensible I’ll be buying second hand only.

The above is just my opinion though, and it’s not worth much more than giving you another point of view to mull over.

At the end of day mate, you’re not going to be unhappy owning the most powerful mainstream gpu ever created, the card is a monster and you’ll be delighted. All this talk of value can get in the way of enjoying the process; buying computer parts shouldn’t be miserable. Whichever card you choose, you’ll have an awesome gpu and your games will look great.

Update:

I installed w10 and running FM4 with my i5 4690 and 980Ti, I got around 30fps @ 4K, depending on which graphics settings I tweaked.

After taking the plunge and building a new pc based on the i7 9700k and 2080Ti (both at stock speeds, I’ve yet to experiment with an o/c) the FM4 benchmark says I’m achieving 80fps @ 4K with all of the settings on either high or ultra - a result that I’m very pleased with and hopefully this new rig will tide me over for the next few years.
 
Surprised no one mentioned that Forza games on pc run significantly better on amd GPUs, Vega 64 matches the 1080ti/2080 in fh4.

If it was me I would have saved a grand a went with the 64, but 2080ti is the most powerful consumer gpu ;)
