On the road....
Ok, as I've ranted before, my girlfriends unwell & in hospital.
Therefore, I've dropped ,considerably, my working hours & wages and due to my very much increased useage of the car too-ing & fro-ing from hospital & the like I'm finding weekly costs of running the car increasing as previously, I spent most of the week away and the car was'nt used. Now, I'm home most nights & running about here & there.

I was thinking of selling the 7 and getting something cheaper to trot about in.

That said, my G/F has a shed of an Xantia TD which whilst being most shedlike to drive (and a nightmare of iffy electrics!) its cheap and very frugal to run.

Now comes the plan.

Imo, at this time of year I'm very unlikely to find a buyer for my car, so I may as well keep it but just save it for long runs & the like which are painful to bear in the Lemon, sorry, Citroen.

I can't see me losing a great deal in depreciation on an already oldish car and reckon it'll be easier to sell in the summer, looking clean & shiny (which is damn impossible with its Black colour & the road salt that the councils throw about at will.

So, if I do keep the car, whats the best way to keep it in good nick whilst using it little?

I'm planning on it having its now due oil service, I was thinking of waxoil or similar underneath and have it parked on the girlfriends drive, so I'll probably give it a good wash & wax before I park it up.

Any other suggestions? I intend to take it out once a week for a drive (approx 20 miles) to get everything warmed up & moving.

Cheers.

Vive la Citroen!

surely by the time you've got an oil service etc etc, it would negate the saving that the Clitroen would give you?

Possible, but selling the car or not, that job still needs doing.

I was thinking more along the lines of saving the tyres / brakes etc most of which are much more expensive to replace than on the Citroen.

I dunno, I'm just considering options. :o

I do less than 5000 miles a year in my car and get cheaper insurance as I'm on a limited mileage policy. I use a push bike for shorter journeys, and round Bristol the traffic is so bad a bike is often the fastest way to get about.

I would sometimes leave my car stood for over 2 weeks or even a month. Most things were fine but the battery died. £50 and a new battery later, I now put my battery on charge when it's stood for longer periods of time. So invest in a battery charger if you don't have one already.

Maybe I should add this to my "top tips" sig. :D
