Hi

Sorry to retrash an old topic , just curious as to what consistant FPS you guys are getting ion COD4.

I am using the latest 8.3 + Hotfix to fix Powerplay issue , playing at 1920x1200 Rez with no AA and everything else up to MAX. My FPS is still dropping down to just over 30FPS depending on whats happening onscreen ....... is this what everyone else is seeing ?

CPU: Q6600 @ 3.2GHZ
FSB: 1333mhz
Gfx: HD3870X2
Windows: Vista Ult 64
Ram: DDR2 4GB

Cheers
Martin

Low settings?

I'm getting pretty much exactly the same performance as you msaunders but I'm using 4xaa and 16xaf at 1920x1200, something must be going wrong somewhere.

Wow.. I get 125 pretty much constant on cod4 - on all high settings and about 80 in cod2 with highest settings :S.

COD4 seemingly has a problem with the way the 3870X2 works, as evidenced in some reviews. The max and avg FPS was high but also the minimum FPS was lower than a single 3870XT, I guess a driver issue at this point...

It's a simple driver issue. This topic has been covered a fair few times now. There is one place in particular, where you have the gilley* suit. I can't personally say I've had the same issue as you, however I, like every other X2 user out there has experienced the FPS droop in the part I mentioned. Eventually, new drivers will smooth it all out. Remember, this card is still fairly new and games which preceded it will have to be updated before we see them truly take advantage of the card. Not long now till cat. 8.4 & from what I've heard there are supposed to be quite a few 3D app. fixes, such as the Powerplay hotfix we saw.

Weird I have this same problem on my 8800GTX\[email protected]\4GB RAM...

running at ANY resolution I get pretty much the same results, silky smooth in some bits but when there's anything around or I strafe there's a slight stutter and the frame rate goes down to arounde 30 or so...makes the game real pants...

To hernaldo, that's wierd as the GTX is a slick card at playing COD 4. My mate has almost the EXACT same setup as you, without the oc on the CPU and he doesn't get any issue like that. :S Have a look at your drivers or something, 'cos that shouldn't happen. COD 4 likes GTX's =D

I have a Q6600, 8800GTX, 4Gb ram, Vista 64bit. On highest settings 1680x1050 I get 60-90FPS... except when I move into smoke it drops down to 30FPS. I've tried 5 different drivers from 169s to the latest beta. No difference :(

Them reviews are without the latest driver & hotfix

COD4 smoke is a real card killer no matter what you use, its either very detailed or badly rendered. but i can get anywhere from 30-150fps @ 1920x1200 with MAX in game settings AA and AF maxed!.

we'll see how much of a hit they take when i get my 2560x1600 monster :) lol

StevenG - i think the x2 will get better with driver updates, even though im on 8.45 cats but lets hope they bring out some better ones?

on my CF setup I get about 50-60minimum even with lots of smoke....1680x1050 4xAA 16xAF.......average well over 100

So it's very odd that you're getting that kind of performance with a X2....obviously something is wrong. Do you have AA on in-game AND on in the CCC? I found this to cause problems and just use 4x in-game settings.

No I have AA OFF in game and in CC its set to Use Application Settings.

One thing I also noticed is a lot of screen tearing when straffing. I know the 1920x1200 TFT's are only 60hz but this is bad . Maybe its my Samsung 245B ? I thought the monitor was supposed to be pretty good , and a 5ms refresh but maybe not ?

Its more noticeable when say straffing while close to a building (looking head on at blockwork for example )

is it cod2? you were talking about ?

Saunders, he means is wessa1 talking about his cod2 score, not what is the topic of the thread :D

I find my FPS is very server dependent. Some servers cause horrendous issues with graphics where such as screen tearing where others seem to be super smooth. Very strange it affects the speed of the graphics though rather than just lag (or is that the way the netcode works nowadays?)
