I am a hardcore PC gamer, but need decent multiplayer games console for when friends come round.

What games are good for multiplayer? (Splitscreen/Internet)

Also, chuck some singleplayer games in for when I am bored.

Is the PS3 that good? Don't think it jusifys the price at all..

And, NO to the Wii. To kiddyish.

Edit: Remembered Halo 3 is out. +1 to 360.

No disrespect Sherbert*, but this is the 3rd thread about this since Wedneday and the other 2 have many responses.

You can read the other threads (there are LOADS), but the overwhelming answer you will get is, get the Xbox360.

Anyone say any about the PS3 it gets dismissed straight away.

I have to say i havnt had a good gaming sesh on my PS3 since the day Warhawk came out. Last proper game i bought for it was Ninja Gaiden. Is a great console though.

I have a Wii but the Halo 3 hype has got the better of me and I will be buying a 360 soon.

But, I love PGR and my brother has a huge host of games that I will be able to borrow.

I was thinking about getting a core, but it doesn't look like it is worth saving the money!

Love my Wii, but with only the one game I have (and want for now) I fancied a change!

I actually agree. Whilst the Wii is great fun its quite lacking in many respects. My main use for it is as a gamecube! lol. The 360 is hands down the best console. In a year or so when the PS3 comes down a touch and is more readily affordable (£200 or less) and it has a big back catalogue, then maybe itll be a competitor. ATM tho, at least IMHO, you cant beat a 360, the mediacenter/transcode feature alone makes it worth the ££

Same. Would like to play warhawk more, but the lack of the headsets means nothing ever really gets organised enough.
 
For multiplayer gaming with friends and as a departure from hardcore PC gaming the Wii has to be the best choice. It is also the most mature and adult orientated console with many intelligent original games.

No it isnt, regaurdless of what anyone thinks of the Wii the last thing it is is adult and sophisticated. It has its plus and minus points like any console but its fundamentally a 'fun' console for short term play. That is NOT sophisticated and adult in my (or anyone i know's) book.

Adult machines cater for things adults have, Big HD's, Media centers, Broadband use, spare cash in their wallet and ID's that say "over 18". The Wii has next to NO media capabilities, NO HD, no proper involved online features (although it does have some great online features tho). It's cheap and easy.

Dont get me wrong, im not ranting against the Wii which is a great bit of kit, but calling it the best console of the 3 is going a bit far, kind of like calling a Renault Clio V6 Sport "the best" sportscar.

360!

Halo multiplayer splitscreen is a most joyus experience!!!111

Also for multiplayer its another thing the ps3 lacks, a lot of the exclusive games dont even have splitscreen!
