Console performance @ 720P

I think 1080i/p will make a difference in films but for games most developers will stick to 720p which is still a hell of a lot better than last gen standard TV res though - these are games consoles after all and not high end PC's.

Well this is true because in film you can notice the extra detail in the higher resolution. Take for instance a facial closeup, the pores in the skin and the individual hairs on eyebrows etc are visible.

Graphics are not as such photo realistic so even with the best games, the textures will probably not show any improvements in actual detail from a 720p resolution to that of a 1080p resolution.

The higher resolution does add an additional sharpness to the image and reduces the visibility of jaggies making it look perhaps more striking. Although id presume to think it possible if you showed two games running and one with 720p 4xAA against a 1080p with no AA it might not be that simple to choose over or indeed be that much of an improvement.
