Also how is it a 'dead end' platform? He could get a 5700X3D, copious amounts of RAM,then down the line stick a 5950X3D in there. From what I've read,AM5 whilst being faster, isn't really worth the effort.
Not dead end, but it has a shorter life for new cpu releases. If AM5 has a couple of years from now- with 16core or more, that means can upgrade if you choose. I won't replace my 7700 until a last gen, fastest AM5 CPU comes out so that would be big update and prolong the life of this for years past that.
