I'm looking for something that can be used to restrict access to my lads PS4, Something like a coin operated TV, Insert a coin/token and you get a set amount of time.

I have no problems stopping him going on it but I want him to learn himself how to manage his time and budget. He will get a set amount of tokens and can "spend" them how he chooses.

I've seen some cheap looking things but they are in the US.

make him pay you to rent it? it means having to remove the console... or if you don't think he can get hold of another controller by his own means then rent that to him

that might also help to teach him how to interact with humans lol

Completely missed the point. He doesn't pay me as that would be ridiculous

Some people let their kids sit on consoles all day, some set a time when they can play and some have a timer but you have to be there to mointor so they don't go over their time.

Just like pocket money, Some parents give their kids money when ever they ask so they don't really learn the value of money as it's always on tap to a limit. Mine get pocket money weekly and they can either spend it all in one go or learn to budget so they have money all week.

It's the same with the console, He gets a set amount of hours per week and he can choose how he uses them and with a box I wont have to be there to supervise.

ps4 comes with a "passcode" that you can set per account. He can't log on unless he "pays" you.

That would work... :)

I'm not always here due to work and want him to have more control without me having to be there.

There was an option on the 360 for a Family Timer that would have done what you wanted but that feature is not available on the new consoles. It may be added in a firmware update but not yet.

I wouldn't recommend a power cut option as you'd want it shutdown/go into standby properly.

Only thing to bear in mind with token timers and things like consoles is that if they work in such a way that power is cut once the token "runs out", then there is potential to damage the device with an unsafe shut-down.

Personally I wouldn't bother, kid needs to be engaged in other ways if they are sitting on a console too much (what is too much is another question entirely - I spent most of my teens and early 20s sat playing games and it didn't really do me any harm - self-respecting, fully employed 33 year old Dad that I am :o)

Of all places iv'e seen these devices.

Whilst on holiday in the crud bucket that is kavos, they had a number of original Xboxes setup on coin slot meters. You might want to look at commercial suppliers.

Simple as, money in and you get 10 minutes. I understand where you're coming from williow, the concept of value, making the most of what little you have mean something to you, it's a great start in life.

My paper money used to go a long way, and truth be told values I still apply now in my 40's:)

Edit* quick search. This sort of thing..http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Arcade-game-machine-coin-operated-timer_60228442975.html
