I know the current answer. But I have been thinking of selling my consoles recently to buy a GPU for my pc.

With news of sony's 'future of playstation' press conference, I decided to wait to see what happens.

My question is, could a PS4 be any better than the PCs I see around on the net?

In short, no. A console will not, and never in the foreseeable future, be up to the specification of a PC.

New Console Released, Is most powerful gaming rig on planet

A few months pass...

Next gen Graphics Cards are released for PC, PC's reclaim most powerful gaming rig tag

Repeat ad-infinitum

Didn't think so :) still interested to see what they do though.

I think I will always feel a little more comfortable with a console.

Mac Mini tbh.

Edit: In all seriousness I sold my PC because I could play every game that I wanted on my Macbook.

Depends how deep is your pockets are and what kind of games you are into.

Console - buy it, forget it, enjoy the games. Buy a new console in 5 to 7+ years

PC - buy it, keep buying bits for it every 12 months. Less money to buy games, but you can brag about your latest GPU in your sig and playing it in 2550x1440 in 256x AA and 3895fps.

I'm not so sure these new consoles are going to be the leap people are expecting.

currently pc graphics are being held back by consoles and no one can dispute this so we should also expect pc graphics to rapidly increase for a short time

Just look at some of the newer pc focused titles that are coming out like pcars where you can zoom right up and stick the camera millimetres from the car and all the detail is still their because of the ridiculous polygon count the cars have

I'm not bothered about bragging.

I love my PS3 but like the idea of a Bitfenix Prodigy HTPC/Gaming rig too :)

I just wanna build it really. Then I'll be bored until I upgrade stuff.

Good luck getting a console to last 5-7 years. More like 1-2.

You dont need to buy new parts for a PC every 12 months. My PC is 4 years old and just about needs replacing now.

i can see the PS4 and new Xbox having a lifecycle of 8-10 years really. The only reason anyone would want/need something more powerful (if they spec them right) is for 4k which is still a long way off mainstream. 1080p will be the most common resolution for TV screens for the next decade IMO. No point in most 'normal' TV watchers having anything higher. The new consoles had better be able to do this natively.

Games are also much cheaper on PC and you don't need to upgrade all that often, still using a 3.5 year old 5870...

However consoles are much more social and cheaper, so both have benefits.

The PS3 and 360 have both been out for over 5 years, most don't fail within 1-2 either. My 20GB 360 from release is still going (although my nephew has it now).

Yes, but due to the nature of pc components it wouldn't be long before it was old hat once again.

Or you know, buy it, turn the settings down to console quality and enjoy your mouse and keyboard! Its more about the input devices and sitting position than anything else in my opinion.

How old is the X-box 360?

And can your PC play Crysis? :D

I mean they don't last that amount of time if played a lot. my brother has been through 4 xb360s so far and I have been through 2 PS3s and I'm not a heavy gamer.

My PC can play Crysis. in fact i have played it twice.

Hence I said "type of games you are into"

as for seating position...how is that relevant?

You can plug a X-box 360 into a PC monitor as easy as you can plug a PC into a TV.

Let the games and your gaming style guide your choice, not the spec of the system.

I've got a PC that's several years old (Q9550), a PS3, and an original gameboy.

I play them all equally really. Nuff said!
