Consoles dying.

I'm just curious about this. Some people have multiple consoles dying on them while others don't experience any problems, ever.

I have had a Sega Megadrive, PS1, 3 PS2's and two Xbox 360's (swapped for other reasons) and a PS3 and I generally treat my consoles like crap. They are on for days on pause and are not really placed in a good spot when it comes to ventilation and are usually covered in dust. But I have never had one die on me.

So what I'm wondering is:
Have you had a console(s) YLOD/RROD, and if so then how do you treat them and where are they stored?

I had 2 360's die after about 18 months usage with each, They were stored in a well ventilated place & only used by me, Never left on pause or any of that nonsense. I do smoke heavy though & reckon they just got caked in the same fluffy sludge my PC fans do. :o
Got them swapped for better models under warranty anyway. :cool:

I've had every sega console and ps1 ps2, wii and 360.

Only one that's ever died on me is the 360, 11 times if I remember correctly. Not all of them red ringed, some went back for dodgy drives.

To be fair, the last one that was replaced was 2 years ago, probably when I started installing games so I have fewer drive failures.

Always well ventilated and well treated.

RRODs are generally a thing of the past due to the many hardware revisions but it does make you wonder when you look at it like this.
 
I've had most consoles going back to the original Gameboy and the MegaDrive.

Only one that has ever failed is the original 360, I went through four of them, the latest was an Elite.

I thought my launch day PS2 might have been on the way out (this was a few years ago now) but all it needed was a laser clean with a disc and it was all good.

I look after my stuff!

I have had three 360's since they come out, legit reasons for replacing them rather than them breaking. My first one last about three years before I traded in for a PS3, it was on it's way out I reckon though. Second 360 I sold to a mate who got 3ROD a week later :D My Elite going strong!
 
Original Gameboy screen started to get lines going down it and the front screen bit fell off and my 360 had 1 RROD. Thats pretty much it. I dropped my gamecube down a flight of stairs and it still works to this day. PC's on the other hand. LOL some parts are just not build to last.
 
ive had more or less every console relesed since the early 90s and only one returned was a ps2 with a chain saw sounding drive. not had my launch 360 20 gig die yet touch wood. but then my 60 gig 360 gets more use
 
I have have had and still have almost every console since the Atari 2600 and the only one that has died on me is the 360, twice.
 
Out of a Playstation, a PS2, 2 PS3's, 3 Xbox 360's, a GameCube, a DS, multiple Gameboys, and a PSP (all I think I had :confused:), I've only had an Xbox 360 red ring on me, and that was fixed under Microsoft warranty. And I generally treat my stuff well, and sort of dust them now and then :p
