Hey. I hope I put this in the right place.
Im trying to get my old comp working because a game, MTW1 wont work on my new one (no matter what). Long story short, my newest problem is this constant 4-bit colour. I really, really want to play this game again and I just cant seem to change it. First thing i tried was reinstalling the graphics card to no avail, i thought this would solve it and on doing some research has worked for many. I changed my start-up in msconfig to normal start-up and it fixed this problem untill i installed IE7. It went back to 4-bit colour. Im doing system restores just now to try and fix this. Any help would be much appreciated. Ty in advance.
Oh and it is NOT in safe mode btw.

add windows xp/98 as a second boot operating system and load that up for any older games which refuse to work on vista/windows 7. I have xp as a second for a few very old games, don't use it very often. Think i used partition manager and added the partition whilst windows was loaded. Quite a handy little programme :)

Try doing a complete re-install of VGA adapter. (Go into safe mode and remove from Device Manager). Also look to see if there are any missing drivers in device manager. Update to latest chipset driver too. If all else fails, re-install windows.

Ty for suggestions. I think that re-instaling windows may be the only way to fix that old comp. Im interested to know that if i add xp as a second OS that this game will work, cause it just wont work on vista.

Are you using an Asus P5 motherboard?

If your getting 4bit color on the desktop after installing the drivers then you need to make sure your fully updated to atleast SP2 on XP or the latest SP on vista. You may then need to install an earlier driver (169.xx or something like that) first before installing the newest driver over the top (no driver cleaner).
