Constant littering in my front garden.

Hey guys im just posting this up as im not entirely sure what I can do but this is becoming bit of an issue.

I live in a cul-de-sac that has a lane right next to my neighbours house which runs between two high schools and a main city-link road. I am constantly getting food packets (crisps, drinks cans and so on) thrown into our garden which has turned into a weekend chore for us to go out and clean up. Recently however we are finding used condoms too which is just fantastic. I guess at least they are tied up but still, not the best entrance to a house having a pathway full of condoms.

Now the easy answer is to blame this on 'kids' which it quite probably is but I have no evidence of anyone ever doing it so I can't really blame the little blighters.

That all said what can I do to act against this as quite frankly I shouldn't have to clean up other peoples litter because they can't be bothered to find a bin and frankly the condoms are a health risk.

Also I have a tap out the front of my house and last night both ours and my neighbours were turned on full blast by someone passing by. Luckily I caught it with what seemed to be only 10 or so minutes of it running and turned them both off. Unfortunately my neighbour was out so that could quite have easily turned into an expensive bill. Ive turned my outside tap off from the mains so it wont happen again (ive also unscrewed the faucet handle off) but still, just another annoyance!

Anyway thanks in advance!

I'm also fairly sure littering is illegal, and should you catch offenders on tape - which it sounds like that would be easy to do - you could submit that to the police. That might be a quick way to get a bin installed if the council fail.

Contact your local council and school principals. If their initial response is not satisfactory, build up a log with photographic evidence and report it to the environment agency.

Step 1. Council to get a bin.

Step 2. Proper fence and gate on your property to keep crap out.

Step 3. Tell school.

Step 4. Vicious attack dog to kill all passerbys.

Personally I would just do 1-3. 4 is an option though if you are feeling rather vindictive.

Buy some bear traps. Place them in strategic choke points.

Or take photos of the litter (not the children, whole new can of worms there!). Contact school. Demand meeting with head/governors. Cctv may be provided by the council if you contact them first. They're also likely to install bins.

When we had this issue where I live pcso's started lurking. Problem went away.

I'm finding it hard to visualise. Your property doesn't border the lane (alleyway?) and you only mention it as this is the walking route people take through your cul-de-sack?

Is the rubbish being thrown into your front garden as they walk along your street?

The food/drink packaging rubbish is "normal" behaviour from kids but it sounds strange that people are carrying around used condoms just to throw in your front garden. Made any enemies recently?

Its bit of an odd setup ill agree. We have a private courtyard shared between 5 houses to the back of our house and we have had issues in the past with cars being broken into, drug dealing and general crime. I did catch 2 kids having a fondle the other day as I was going to the car too. Im guessing its because its not a lit area (we tried getting a light installed but both council and building firm (its a new build area) claimed it wasn't their problem and it cost to much for them to attempt it).

My guess is yes it is getting thrown into our garden as people are passing the house and heading into or out of the lane which is a few yards away from our front garden.

Also we havn't really been able to make any enemies, we have lived here for just over a year and havn't really involved ourselves with anyone other than our 1 neighbour whose tap was also left on last night. There are a few unsavoury types across the road in some council housing who seem to enjoy throwing fag butts in their own garden but ive always been courteous to say hello when passing but that's about it.

Anyway thanks for the help ill get onto the council right away. They are pretty poor as it took us half a year to get a few lights fixed in the lane (it was pitch black constantly as they were all broken when we moved here) and some have broken again.

Its a truely awesome area to live currently... :)

The council will come and collect sex litter normally, as its a health hazard.

Put a bin there, and hope they chuck it in?

I live near a cut through for a school, and I get the odd bit of rubbish dumped on my path, not as bad as yours though, so I just pick it up. :)
