Approx 1 year old, the drive is forever writing and reading 64, 32, 8 bytes of data. It is too noisy

I have just tried to clone it with Easyus and it appears as an unrecognised disk. Clonezilla also has problems with it.

The disk is working in windows and is recognised in the bios. I suspect that it is failing slowly so will need to replace. It is my boot drive.

Any opinions on what is happening are most welcome.

regards, andy.

Sounds like its on its way out

First things first BACKUP all your important data if you have a spare drive or external.

Download HDD tune http://www.hdtune.com/ and run the health check on there and post your findings back

Also check out some of the Hitachi tools for there HDDs http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/
