If it were a stand alone film i think i would rate it pretty well, but based on Hellblazer and the direction they went with it, i think it sinks like the Titanic.
It was okay... then I ain't seen it for ages, I think the last time was a few months after I bought it on DVD (which was pretty much at its release)...
I thought it was pretty damn awesome, certainly a cut above most supernatural action/horrors. Preferred it to say, Blade, by a long way. Keanu's wooden style being put to use where it's actually needed in a character IMO.
I think the trouble with it is that this was the film that people realised Keanu Reeves couldn't act. And that because it came right after The Matrix there was far too much 'Neo' in his character.
I enjoy the subject matter. the battle between heaven and hell has always interested me, from when I started playing In Nomine many years ago.
The film itselp is nothing groundbreaking but can be forgiven for its lacklustre performances by being at least interesting in parts. The story was consistent and enjoyable.
I thought it was actually sightly better than I was expecting, I'd give it 5/10 average - but I like the format. There's some things that could have been done better.
Easily one of my favourite films, thought the casting was great (especially Peter Stromare as Satan) and the film was very well made, have no idea how it compares to the comics as I've never read them and I suspect that helps my opinion somewhat, think way too many people just have something against Keanu and instantly dislike anything he's in on principle.
I loved the ideas and visuals in the film (there vision of hell is fantastic), Keanu was fine but overall the movie just felt 'small scale' considering, not really enough action so some bits feel slow.
