I have a headless server at home, and when I need to go to the console I have to unplug my monitor, keyboard, mouse and hook it all up. I know about ssh and remote destop :D I am talking about remote access (over the LAN, not WAN) to the PC when there is NO Operating System installed. In the corporate world people use iLO boards (integrated lights out), is there anything reasonably priced for the consumer?

I highly doubt it, it's a pretty specialized area. Unless your running a specific application or have a specific need?

I've some cables which are made by HP that I got from work. They've KVM at one end at ethernet on the other. 2 of these would probably do what you want methinks.

I sometimes need to reboot my ESXi box and go into the BIOS and fiddle about, or perform an upgrade, etc. Not that often but if I can get a piece of kit cheaply to do allow me to remote in that would be good. Probably a tall order...

Thanks, do you have a model number for those? Just one would do I think.

Stick ethernet kvm into the auction site, and you'll get plenty for £30 or so.
(Corporate surplus kit, not new stuff, but would do what you're after)
