Im trying to make a contact card in Photoshop but it just looks awful, its pixelated including the text..Why cant i get it sharp? the background is not much of a problem but the text looks awful when i print it out.

Check you're using AA on the text. You have a choice of Sharp, Crisp, Strong or Smooth.

Check you're designing at 100% zoom.

Check you're using a suitable DPi for the canvas size.

Check your printer is calibrated and aligned correctly.

What DPI are you using??? You want to be using 300DPI as that is pretty much the standard.

As has been said, check your AA settings for the text tool.

E-mail sent to your msn e-mail

Have sent a sample back to you.

As i thought the original set-up (pixels per inch) was wrong.

Use 300 pixels per inch for printed work / 72-96 is ok for screen

Iv sent an e-mail back, iv managed to get the text sharp but it looks odd because the background is pixelated still.

Have returned your email with attachments.

Your original image is too small to use at 300 px/inch.

You need an image approx 4x bigger each way ( i.e 72 x 4 = 300 (ish) ).

If you imagine your original image as a 1000 piece jigsaw that fits a coffee table exactly.

You then take that same 1000 piece jigsaw and try and cover a snooker table with it.

To cover it exactly you are going to have to leave spaces between the pieces , this is pixelation.

In a simple example :p

Nice example, shall have to remember that one when people send me tiny thumbnail pics and ask if they are ok to use as a cover photo for an A4 magazine....
