Contact lenses for astigmatism

im really excited to be honest. i have worn glasses since i was 7 (and ive just turned 30!) never once thought about lenses. then at my last 6 month check up my man said "have you thought about contacts?"

Took a while and had some birthday cash burning a hole so i thought I'd experiment and see what lenses are like!

A whole new wooooooooorld. haha

I didn't realise you could get contacts which cure astigmatism? I always thought that was the downfall of lenses and you need glasses with lenses that could bend the light in a certain way to correct the horizontal or vertical shifting?

I'm only slightly astigmatic, I think it's fairly common to have slight astigmatism, most of it is not noticeable apparently though.

yeah that's why i have only recently considered contacts, they can now correct it. slight astigmatism is compensated for by the eyes.

So am I and it causes problems when looking for lenses. I wear Coopervision Toric Excels as well, the monthly disposable ones because they are the only ones that will match my prescription. I simply can't get a monthly continuous or a daily disposable that's weak enough for my left eye.

hmm.. lenses or no lenses, im well aware of my lack of external beauty.

im getting them for work reasons primarily. i have quite a knackered nose, which looks worse without my specs on. im just trying lenses as an alternative... for a change, y'know? i'll probably be a 50.50 specs/lenses person. certainly cant give up the sheer simplicity of glasses just like that.

it's definately not a vanity thing

i have toric monthlys from specsavers, i near the end of my free trial, i am very satisfied with them and will definily continue after the months trial, once you have a pescription and they have checked your eyes cope with the contacts it is cheaper to buy them online, which is what i will do, they have the same brand as what specsavers use for there lenses and it is about £4 a month cheaper!

wore lenses for a few years now. Yes they do give you the extra confidence and in my case "make me look better" than glasses, but after a couple of years you'll probably be at the stage i'm at and just wish you had perfect sight without glasses or lenses, as they can be a bit of a hassle at times.

I use Acuvue Advance, when i went in for a routine checkup they said my eyes were too dry so they gave me these ones, you can only wear them for 2 weeks (take em out at night) not the normal 4 weeks. I am very happy with them, i can wear them for 12 hours on end and they feel fine.

Highly recommended!!

Some one i know has just had laser eye surgery and has got perfect vision now, i wanna do this myself but they way he said the precedure turned me off it :(
