After being repeatedly told I should switch to contact lenses by various people at Uni, i've been giving it some thought.

Just had a few questions to ask some of you contact wearing folk on here.

First up, are dailies worth the (fairly hefty) premium over monthly lenses?

Are any brands better or worse than others (like why do Acuvue cost almost double anything else does?)

Would I best off going to my opticions (Vision Express at the moment) and trying them or just ordering some online?

Any other advice/comments would be great cheers.

That's not something i'm prepared to do at 19, if it was my thread would have been titled 'Laser Eye Surgery'

I just get focus dalies from Get lenses. £54 for 3 months, which isnt too bad. I dont wear lenses every day, so they work out better for me, and are much safer than monthly leses.
Acuvue are a rip off. I couldnt find any difference between focus and them...

I find dailies more comfortable than the monthly ones. I stick with Focus dailies. Its easy because new pack every morning, stick them in and throw them away at night, with monthly your gonna have to keep them, gets annoying.

Except it's a pretty big fee to pay just like that *clicks*

I believe daily contact lenses are more popular due to them being more sanitary than the ones you have to clean. You could use a mixture of both dailies and monthlies until you have saved up enough to get laser eye surgery though.

It's cheaper in the long run. :)

I use monthlies. if you are going to be wearing them every day, the make a lot more sense. and I pay £60 for 6 months worth. Even once you factor in the cleaning solution, its still significantly cheaper than dailies.

Do it through your optician, at least for the first year or so, as that way you will get regular check ups, which are very useful just to make sure you're not having any problems.

First of all, I would go to the Optican for the first pair. They will give you advice on each and show you how to get it in and out properly. Once you have that then order them online as you feel fit.

unless it goes wrong,

I know someone who had laser surgery, he's now totally blind in one eye, also has problems with blurring on the other eye. I've used contacts, the monthly type. Ok as long as you clean them properly, although ideally would do weekly or fortnight contacts (seem to get a bit uncomfortable near the end of the month) Fairly tricky to insert/remove at first, but pretty easy after a bit and you soon get used to it. Only had to stop using them because I got a red blemish on the top of my eyeballs so bit worried about infection.

No way would I get laser surgery done, unless I'm near blind. Wouldn't do it for cosmetic reasons or if existing prescription corrects my eyesight...without wearing binocular thickness type lenses.

I use dailies once or twice a week for going out/sports. Otherwise - glasses.
Dailies>>>others
Dailies are more hygenic.
It does not matter if they somehow manage to fall out.
Most have time limit. After that - BOOM! No, not really, they just dry up and your eyes hurt. Mine are 8 hours. My eyes strained when I had them on for 10 hours once.
Acuvue is just a brand I think, you want water based ones anyway, as they keep your eyes moist.
A pair of lenses ~ £1.
And defo get them from your optician. When I started up wearing lenses, they found out that I have dry eyes and lenses made them worse. So I can't wear them all the time (hence few times a week) and I also have to get water-based ones.

That could be a problem, as I tend to get up about 7:30 and not go to bed until around 2am most nights, so a little longer than 8 hours use would be needed :/

Yet another reason to go see your optician and make sure the ones you get are ok.

I wear Focus Dailies. Very comfortable, no problems at all.

Tad expensive though, especially since now I HAVE to pay every month even if I haven't used all of them.

I think my optician said I should wear mine for a max of 12 hours a day, although the more you wear them, the more your eyes get used to them, so longer may not be a problem. You could find out if simply taking them out, and refreshing them with solution might help.

I used to have dailies, and they are more comfortable, but when I first started wearing lenses they are quite soft and can be hard to put in at first. So I have switched to monthly lenses, and keeping them clean etc. isn't very hard. They are still comfortable, and easier to put in then dailies.

They the ones made by Ciba?

yeah.. boots wanted £27 for one month! wtf
From get lenses it works out at £18 per month, assuming you use them every day. 3 months supply lasts me 4-5 months.
