So I have 4 crates, roughly a 300mm (L) x 200mm (W) x 150mm (H).

Did some weed sheets stapling last night so it's ready to hold soil and use as a planter. Just looking for suggestions on what to grow?

I've already got a 750mm x 750mm x 10mm bed growing 2 rows of pak choi and 2 rows of chantenay carrot, along with 2 pots of 'unknown' tomatoes, 2 pots of cucumbers, a trough of strawberries, a pot with Sage, Lemon Balm, Winter Savory growing and another trough with 2 "cucumelons" along with a rotation of 10 cherry radish growing.

I'm wondering if I should try something else or just plant more carrots and pak choi in 2 of the 4 crates, with the other 2 being turned into some kind of lavender planter for visual and aural pleasure.

Thoughts?

e: I'm a first time veg planter, so very new to this. Trying container gardening this year before deciding if I should convert an area of my garden lawn to producing edibles.

What ever you do don't grow courgettes in tubs or the plants will get mouldy and die! not sure why but they get a fungus if not planted in the ground.

Chilli plant. Lettuce or two.

More strawberries...you need lots of strawberry plants to get a half decent crop. 20-30 plants would be ideal.

Never knew that, will bear that in mind.

I have a couple of chilli plant going, forgot to add to the list. That would be a waste if grown in the crate tbh.

I like the strawberry idea, I might keep a box aside as my current dozen should spread come July/August.

Are there any good lettuce that can grown in container? I have a tray of baby leaves (lamb lettuces, red and green baby leaves).

I had 10 strawberry plants on the go last year and only got a dozen or so strawberries off each over the entire season.

Lettuce - Not sure tbh (was just a suggestion..I've no knowledge of container growing). Always start mine in the greenhouse, then move them to the veg garden. No reason why they couldn't grow in a container though.

Spring Onions would do ok.
Some variant of runner bean perhaps?

So I got a dozen free Lavender (superplugs) from Sutton Seeds (£5 delivery though), so I'm gonna plant them in 2 of the crates for scent and visual, the other 2 will be used for Pak Choi and more Carrots. Rotate between that and the bed, I should have plenty of veg over summer.

What about more veg? Courgette, marrow, butternut squash, onions, various garlic types and spring onions for starters.

Rhubarb?

To be honest, grow whatever you're going to eat yourself, pointless growing something you don't like or can't use, unless you plan on selling/exchanging it.
